Personally, I think the board there does leave a bit to be desired as it has become a bit of a **** session as papers have been shutting down. Looking past the board, there's a ton of fantastic info there. Much is contained in articles that I have seen on where else on the web. Add to that the professional networking and classifieds and I'd say its worth the $25/yr. Scott Evans Photography

Non-members can read articles, download videos, and so on. I got a GREAT article there once on how to do through the glass basketball shots. www.ToddStowe.com

Try asking someone around here how to run five remotes on a single set of strobes. You can learn a lot of basics and progress here but for a lot of harder techniques it is easier to get help there.

After reading this thread I thought I'd see if I was any chance without a sponsor. I threw a few recent images together and submitted them, I only used 8, I was hesitant to put something in to just make up the numbers. I was accepted one day later. So it is not impossible to do, but take the time to select your better work, maybe even get a critique of each photo individually on here, if people find faults maybe it says it is one that should be omitted. Here is my page so you can get an idea of what my submission was like - www.sportsshooter.com/robshots KJEphoto, are you still going to try? Happy to try and help with critiques etc if you are, and good luck too. That is a really nice collection you submitted. Great work. namasste wrote in post #7809581 I think that most that feel really negative about SS are those that really only frequent the message board. I consider my $25 a year to be a good investment and have learned a huge amount from SS. While I agree there is a ton of good info on this site, there is also a lot of bad and totally incorrect information that can really side track a new user. Name: Kevin

I was far too lazy to try and find a sponsor so I just submitted and was admitted a day later as well. Excellent source of information from many of the best in the industry. I was worried about my portfolio because it's almost all animal sports, but they didn't seem to mind.

If you are a student they run really sweet contests and stuff and you can get some really great portfolio reviews that are well thought out by big name professionals. I'm not nearly good enough to be a competitor in those but hopefully some day. http://www.https …book.com/tommypenickphoto
