Really interested in dumping my EOS Elan 7 and finally going all digital. Reading this forum I see alot of people have real good luck with a refurbished 40D from Adorama, but Henry's in Canada has new 40D for the same price. Would it be better to get one that has had a good second look by Canon?

If you can get new for the same price then go for it. I wouldn't buy refurbished unless their was a decent discount.

There are also lots of perfect used 40d's floating around. You might be able to save a little money that way.

I have a Refurb and love it...but having said that, if you can buy new for the same price, I'd go for it. IMHO, refurb is as good or better than new, but you get a better warranty with new.

Agreed, I would get a new one for same price, but it's true that factory refurbs look brand new.

I'm not sure of the reputation of "Henrey's in canada", but if you know they are legit, i don't think you really needed to ask this question

If you can get a new one for the same price as a used one why would you even ask?

With that said, I will echo what dalto said. There a lot of great used ones around that can be found for a deep discount. Canon counts on those that have to have the newest and greatest. They sold their 40D's when the 50D came out. I bought mine used and it had so few clicks I couldn't tell it from a new one.

The reason I asked the question is from reading this forum for the last 6 months people really seem to be pleased with refurbished 40D, especially from Adorama. Seems like they get a camera that has been gone over with a fine tooth comb by Canon and have no issues. The only person I know here in NC that has purchased a new 40D had numerous issues with the err99 code and ended up returning it and got a Nikon. I've owned nothing but Canon's since the 70's and my only digital, a G3, has been stellar. With 3 lens from the Elan 7 I want to stay with the 40D / 50D line. Just worried that I might get a refurb with 10K clicks. I'm hoping the new Canon's have had the early issues worked out and stock on hand wasn't made 12 monts ago. Thanks to all for the input.
