Accidental or not, f/4 or not, I'll vote to allow it. I like the framing of the ball, too.

Even at f/4 you can get more background blur. The trick is to pick a focus closer to you and further from the player (obviously). Of course you weren't going for that in this case.

All of a sudden blurred backgrounds in football have become all the rage, but still photographers and movie companies figured this out a long time ago.

I got bored last night and worked on creating a suitable pic. I think I over-did the shutter speed.

I didn't believe it at first, but this does not require fast focus or insane fps. This was done on a 5dMII and others I have done were on a Rebel T1i. Both of which are lucky to get 3 fps (rated at 3.#).

T1i with 18-55, 55-250, 50 1.8
