I've seen Feisol tripods being mentioned on a few other forums recently (see http://www.feisol.com/ (external link) ), mainly as a cheaper alternative to the Manfrotto carbon-fibre models.

Anyone here had any experience with them (and more so, any UK people get hit with import charges)?

I'm currently weighing up between the 3401 and the 3402 but can't decide.

Any pointers or comments gratefully received.

Pete

I don't know anything about them. For the same reasons, I am wondering about the new "basalt" fiber tripods from Gitzo. They are about 1/3rd cheaper than the carbon fiber models.

I ordered to Feisol 3301, which should arrive today. I'm excited and will let everyone know my opinion soon.

My friend bought the taller version of the two. It is heavy, made me change my mind on it.

3.2 pounds is pretty lightweight for a tripod that size. Heck mine's about 7 pounds.

On the other hand.. I don't think 52" is tall enough.

Got the 3301's to replace my Bogen 3221. It's light and sturdy. I'm very happy with it.

My bad  we were looking at a couple types at the time, he bought a
Giottos MT-9180. It's about 6.6 pounds.
