Cheers, mate. Most of my experience (some time back) is based on an AE, where you could get away with a bit more. I'm still sussing out the limitations of digital (dynamic range, mostly).

OTOH, I'm on hols. I'm hoping to take my three-legged-monster, my light box and my lappy and hope to try my hand at HDR. It sounds like that may be more my style.

I could be wrong, but it can't hurt to try.

C:\>

Even when I was shooting with my 1N (SFS again) I was metering off the players on the pitch. I didn't have the screen to deal with, but having the players exposed properly is the most important part.

HDR wont really work with that much action going on. You're gonna end up with ghosting from the players. A light box wont do too much either really, your best bet would be a mono pod and a lower shutter speed if you need more light.

Maybe you should try a faster lens though? (Sorry, not sure what you're shooting with).

The 1Ds doesn't come with a battery charger by the looks of it. I don't understand why people sell their bodies without it? Surely if you've got another body that you can use it with, you'd have two?

I've bought a 3000N and a 1N off Ebay, and neither came with the eye piece around the viewfinder. Very annoying!

I had such high hopes for the 85L to arrive today... I shouldn't have expected Australia Post to do any more than the minimum required service.

arghghghghghgh... can't solve a VM ping dropout issue :(...

What makes you think you won't get it today Clarence? Still got many hours ahead before the day ends :D Or perhaps tracking number says it still hasn't shipped O_O

If it's posted through standard AusPost, they only make one delivery. If it's done by the Post couriers, he may be in luck. But more often than not, if you don't receive it with your mail, it's not coming.

I'm new to night-shooting. I was trying to spot-meter on the players but may not have got the metering right (Center weighted averaging). I suspect that the meter was picking up the screen in the background.

I've had a look around and yes, HDR is not suited to anything that moves (waterfalls excepted perhaps).
I was running 1/100 5.6 ISO 400.

Tamron 18-270. I like a big zoom, cos you never know;). I wanted a JOAT lense and this seemed a reasonable investment, since I bought the 50D body-only.

I figured that I can go back through my collection and see what "groups" of focal lengths I use more often and then invest in suitable specialist lenses to suit my requirements, once my proficiency reaches the point where I can justify the additional spend. In the meantime, I'm waiting on the delivery of a cord remote that I plan to re-work into a lightning-catcher (it's a cheapie, so that if the plan doesn't work out I can put it back together).

As in shared virtual IP/interface? If so, what sharing options are you using?

I called Auspost and the tracking number hasn't been scanned through - the lady on the phone told me that it only gets scanned at the delivery centre, so it hasn't been scanned in for delivery yet - if it's not scanned through by now, then it's not getting delivered today :p

Multiple VMs are running on a machine but when I ping one of the guest (say VM1) from an external computer, I get timeouts every now and then. All the other guests don't suffer such dropouts.
Bizarre, no IP/MAC conflicts. Reinstalled VMware tools. Changed the vNIC. Changed the speed of the ports. Changed VMnet#. No fix..
