Amsterdam tomorrow, any places that are a must?
My girlfriends family will be taking me all over the country, but anything in particular?

My 3G has never gotten hot, even after i've just been using wireless for the last 2 hours it's still a normal temp. You get the wall plug with the 3G also but not the touch.

Yeah, mine's always been fine. Even with a case on it never gets hot.

I suspect they'd still be stupidly expensive :P

Found another seller who handmakes them, $60USD each normally - trying to find out if he'll do better prices if we order several.

$60USD isn't bad for a carbonfibre item. He uses four layers of cf, not fibreglass.

Anyone ordering from Servaas?

If you do I could join in, but try emailing feng, he might still have some from the last bulk buy....

haha... yes and no. I'm going to be support function for the operations team, so I guess, as long as I can make things up on the spot, I'll be fine

... but yeah, is gonna be hard. System goes live on Wednesday 1st of July, and we haven't even seen the system yet...

What system??

Woo, finally got my new website up

I still need to add a gallery link to the menu and tweak some of the text, but overall, that's approximately how I want it. Thoughts welcome

Looking good, the photo of you just looks a bit suss :p:lol:

Is anyone interested in an 85mm f/1.8 w/ Canon Hood.

Offloading some stuff for a bit of extra cash.

I dunno, I might be might not be....

tangcla wrote in post #8192535 (external link)
I sold mine for $485, with hood.

In other news, I'm picking up a 16GB iPhone 3G (non-S) tonight for $500

A mate of mine just got the 32g 3gs, it is pretty cool... I dunno what it would give me though.... (I don't do email on the go or anything like that)

That's a bit dodgy then. I run my Nokia E71 with the Wi-Fi and 3G going a lot and it's never felt hot at all. I love that phone, it's the only thing that's stopped me getting an iPhone.

I'm happy with my good old sony ericsson z610i I have dropped it from the catwalk onto stage twice now, in the river once, drenched it in rain many times, dropped it on the ground many times, still going strong :) (looks a bit knackered, but works great)

Sounds like fun, ask in a new thread in the lounge, then someone from Amsterdam can reply ;)

This is not a sarcastic question, but I have a kit 18 - 55mm lens that came with my 400D body so in what way would a 50mm lens be of benefit to me? Would it only be the f1.8 aspect that would make a difference?

Never judge a person till you walk a mile in their shoes - by then it won't matter. You are a mile away and they have no shoes.

Pretty much, but I wouldn't sell the 18-55 just to get the 50. I got the 50 and used it next to the 18-55 (although the 18-55 came out as little as possible) and eventually I got a 24/2.8 to be my widest lines.

By the way Mark, I got Noise Ninja. It cleans up the 1D photos alright from my quick test. I used the profile from the website and assumed I didn't have to apply anything as the preview box showed the difference. I never thought it was worth getting or using but it's a lot more useful than just the Lightroom NR.

General question for anyone here relating to using Noise Ninja: should I leave the Lightroom NR at 0 and just let NN do all the work?

TBH I just use LR NR for most files these days since the mk III is so clean!
I personally use Neat Image ATM, I find it cleans up the really bad (oops I underexposed a stop at ISO 3200) files really nicely, try it with the profile off their site and see how it goes... What I would do is do all your edits you want, leaving all the NR sliders at 0 then NR with NI or NN..

You and your 1D3 being so clean  I've only ever used Lightroom's NR and it's been good enough but the 1D files are pretty bad. I should have just used the 400D on its own. Or stolen someone's 5D :p

I'll get Neat Image soon. I don't think there's much to do to the 400 or so photos that I've ended up with, apart from cropping maybe.

Yeah, ye old 1D had pretty bad High ISO capability... Hey what do you expect with the first(ish) pro DSLR ;) I know there are lots of people that still love it because of the they reckon the colour and sharpness is something special with the CCD sensor :)

Just try and run the through as many different NR systems as possible... I have had a battle with NR on some files from my 40D a while back (ISO 3200 underexposed a stop and pushed) but got it looking okay with NI and Nik Sharpener I think it was....

Oh yeah, and what you *do not* want to see in your viewfinder when shooting cross country in the storms we had today "Card1" alternating to "Card2" and a little "Full" flashing :| changing cards in rain is not fun or easy.... (try and keep it as much in rain jacket as possible)
Also a bad sign of work ahead when you have 22gb of full cards in your pocket :|

I knew how bad it would be/is but I was thrown off by the lighting when I was shotting on Friday night. Terrible stage lighting. I love using it during the day though :) I used it at my cousin's hockey match once. Friday night under lights, I was getting a bare minimum 1/300 ISO 3200 f/2.8 with a bit of -EC to get that 1/300! The photos weren't too bad, this one is obviously downsized with LR NR and probably a bit of USM or LR export sharpening (not the detail sharpening):

IMAGE: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3607/3521277601_11fc339af4.jpg

So in the right conditions, the high ISO is definitely usable, I don't hestitate. It's just that the gig on Friday was nothing close to the right conditions  I probably won't end up doing too much with the photos as I told the guy who organised it (and who opened the show with a two-piece act) that the lights were pretty bad.

Edit: Here's another ISO 3200 example, this time from indoors basketball. A bit worse and a bit underexposed again but I had to do what I had to do.
