Got some new Primes, Sell my Zooms or Not?

I have recently bought a Sigma 150 macro, canon 85 1.8 and sigma 30 1.4. Is there any reason to keep my tamron 17-50 and canon 28-135 or sell them, I am not sure if they will get much if any use now that I got these 3 primes.

I'm the other way around. I got a 17-55mm and thinking of getting rid of my absolute mint condition canon 50mm 1.4. The zooms are so easy to use when walking around taking group photographs....

It really depends on your style and what you shots you need to get.

how are you sure that you'll favor the primes over the zooms?

I wouldn't rush into selling a lens unless you bought a new one as a more, or less, direct replacement. Give it some time, like 6 months. You may find you'll be thinking of selling the primes instead of the zooms. Anything is possible.

good idea, guess I just thought I would love the new primes, but who knows, maybe it will not suit my style in the long run. I think I will just give it time and see if I use the zooms or primes or maybe both depending on the situation, thanks for the help.

yeah i'm suspicious of ideological gear shifts "i'm going ALL prime!" i'd hold off for now. you just may decide to use zooms and primes....

I'm with Ed and Bohdank on this. Just started exploring primes myself, but I'm not making any quick moves to dump my zooms.

It doesn't have to be a choice between primes and zooms. I'm picking both my zooms and my primes for specific purposes.

Give it six months or so to see which lenses you're using and which lenses are just sitting in your bag. You may be surprised...

I understand you fondness for primes. Except for the 24-70mm I would like all my lenses to be primes.

I sold all my zooms except for my 24-70. I use 100, 200, 500, 600 primes and have a 1.4TC and 2xTC. Perfect for me. I will usually only go somewhere with one lens or two at the most. I like the challenge of using what I have with me.

I would wait awhile, and I'd sell the Tamron last since that would be my most-used zoom. I have all the primes I want right now (though I'll take a 100L or midrange 35 if Canon ever bothers...), but I miss having a standard zoom every now and then.

Why not...both are useful and valuable..see my sig...

I was in the exact same position a few weeks back but after a dinner party with a 50mm f1.4 prime I cant imagine being without a zoom lens...

If only zooms can have have apertures as low as 1.4

wow, I just sold all my primes and bought zooms. I got tired of carrying all that stuff and juggling lenses while being jostled around. the IQ and low light losses are made up for by the IS and ability to compose from a stationary position (like a stadium seat). Less gear, less dust, more freedom, more options.

I want both, but unfortunately can't afford to keep both.
