I just touched base with the guy who runs the racing series and we are good to go. Only catch is you have to sign a safety waiver to go out on track, and agree not to sell any photographs that you take since he has an exclusive agreement with a photographer for the series.

Tentative plan would be to meet at the gate at 7:00-ish and go from there.

Cool...

We could still use the images for Portfolio purposes though, correct?

Yes. We just don't want to take any business away from the preferred vendor.

For the purposes of 100% disclosure, I am sort of grandfathered in because of my long-standing relationship with the race series owner, and I have established relationships with a lot of the racers that pre-date the current official photographer, if that makes sense.

Sounds like fun - I'm 90% sure I can make it!

Dean,

If you are interested, I may try to have J. Schultz from SWR head out there. He wants racing promo type pics.

Which track is this one at? Maybe we can get him on the main drag, and shoot him with the grandstands in the background. :)

Hey guys - Randy (cntry) mentioned that I should maybe post this here for a possible local sale; hope this isn't considered spamming your thread. If so let me know and I can delete.

I have a 1Ds II for sale for $2100; can do something locally for cheaper than what I am asking shipped/paypaled. I am out in Avondale but willing to drive anywhere within the Phx metro area for sale.

Thx!!

Hey Mike, how are you adjusting living back in az again? did you go out to sema?

Anyone interested in a mini POTN get together at Firebird this weekend? They're holding CCS races there on the Main track, and I'd love to show you guys the best spots and pass along any techniques for getting good pics.

I think $10 gets you in for both practice on Saturday and the races on Sunday. Besides some cool photo ops, the racing is quite good.

Here's some of the pictures I've taken at this track:

man I wish I can go. helping a friend photograph a wedding that day.

Its at Main, so they will be using the dragstrip. Perhaps some pics with the pits in the background would be good. Not sure if you're asking me to take pics or if you can come out and take pics of him...? Either way is fine with me.

Ok, so I appear to have the following RSVPs or tenatives :) Not committing you, just trying to get some idea.

I've invited a few friends interested in photography from a local motorcycle forum as well, so we should have maybe 8 if everyone shows.

I had said 7:00, but Saturday is a practice day and the riders usually start out slow the first few sessions. So, let's shoot for 8:00.

To get to Firebird, you want to take I-10 East towards Tucson, exit Wild Horse Pass, which is the first exit south of the 202. Turn right at the top of the ramp, then take your first left onto Maricopa Rd. The main entrance will be on your left a few blocks down.

So, referring to the map below, you'll want drive through the main gate (1.) and turn left immediately into the parking lot (2.) Either at the main gate or at the entry to the parking lot, you'll have to stop and sign a waiver and pay the $10 entry fee. Keep your wristband if you are coming back for the races Sunday. Park anywhere you like in the parking lot and then meet me at the entrance to the track (3.).

If you happen to have an orange or yellow safety type vest, bring it.

Any questions?

Home and wearing out my printer for Desert Light tonight.

I thank you all from the bottom of my heart for all the support and good wishes over this past week.

@ Dean: I'm solid for Saturday at 0800. I may even be able to make Sunday for at least part of the morning. Jury is still out on that right this second though.
