So, the Chandler Ostrich Festival is this weekend. Anybody want to meet up at the festival on Sat. afternoon for some afternoon/evening/nighttime photo safari action?

I told Dean today that he should be out there snapping the races.

Just remember that they have a strict dress code cause it is a Family Friendly Show :-P sorry, had to say that since they add it in big letters.

Anyways, they advertise the show for $20 at the door, my buddy said it goes from 3pm-9pm. Try and show up early cause lines tend to be long the last time I went to one. I am getting there as soon as I finish with my volleyball tourny at asu pe west. so I'm hoping for 2pm. I'll be in there with my tripod shooting the cars. But i will have a wristband on so I will have access to go in and out of the show. Last time I went to one they wouldn't let people back in w/o buying a new ticket.

What time?

Should I look for you? Do you want to meet up and sing "why can't we be friends" while listing to the smooth sounds of the band "WAR?"

That's funny...

Probably around 3ish if the wife's up to it. She's not feeling very well.

Looks like we will be there a little earlier. Probably around 2. So we will probably miss the sunset and will be home before.

That's ok though because my cheapo flash set-up came yesterday and I would like to practice with it.

Also, last year they had some stunt type motorcyclist that was pretty cool to photograph..

Great start with the cheapo flash! I started off with probably the exact same thing, looks the same at least. eBay strobe? The stands and the brolly look the same. :)

Fun stuff, huh? Now you need a bounce card to fill in the right side of your doggie.

Thanks so much. These are from Cowboystudio.com... I will never ever order from there again. Overpaid shipping and it took weeks. Also, everything was poorly packed. The whole thing was a mess from the moment I hit "Checkout"..

Yeah, I know it's going to be a learning curve. I need to get one of them.

While taking some of my Honey Bunny, I noticed it was a bit dark, so I set a second flash lower camera right to fill it in a little. One of those reflectors would have been better I'm sure, but overall I'm ok with it.. Lot to learn. :)

Weaksauce that you had problems ordering the lights. :(

If you're hooked on strobes, I recommend taking the plunge and getting some Alien Bee 800s. I use the cheapo lights as fill now. They work well for that!

Good start with the lighting, though. Basically, I adjust the effectiveness of the strobe on the light itself and via my aperture while balancing the bg with my shutter speed.
