Forgot to ask... how did you trigger the 580?

The speration from the background is fine. You can add more contrast in post (check mail) :) It's the time of day IMO coupled with the soft light of the umbrella. Do you own the deep octa?

I have the 50-something inch Octa. Too damn big to take out in the field though. I had the 24" square softbox with me.

So... dropping your ambient exposure will bring in more color from your backgrounds. You can of course shoot/strobe anytime of day but I can tell you from all the sessions we did over the holidays... early morning/late evening produced the best images. The images here are a little flat... so... you could have gone with the subtactive method as well... placing a black panel/flag near your wife to bring up the contrast. But.. this is all minor as I think the images are at a nice point where some post work will really make them shine.

Gotcha... I know there's better open shade around where we'll be shooting tomorrow afternoon in Scottsdale. Civic Center / City Hall Plaza area...

Take the same setup tomorrow and start shooting around 5 and see what you think... again... you can shoot at high noon... and we have... but... the colors are washed.

You could always pick up one of these.... http://www.sunbounce.com/cms/index.php?id=1036&L=1 (external link) :)

Yeah, that's pretty trippy...

Probably the wildlife photographer's equivalent of getting a ride with the Blues or the TBirds.

BTW, when I went up to Vegas for that aviation symposium, I was rather suprised to find out that both George Lepp and Moose Peterson are members of ISAP.

Moose gave a great presentation on how he's been bitten by the aviation shooting bug. His efforts to date are solid but not earth shaking.

Then he gave a slide presentation of his wildlife and landscape work. Not a dry eye in the house! Simply Amazing Work. And he does NO cropping of any kind on his wildlife/landsacpe images. 99 out of 100 images are SOOC!

Got to Cave Creek Rec Area too late to do much searching, and really didn't find much in the way of wildflowers. So I broke out my flashy thingy and had my buddy hold it camera right and shot this little bunch.

Thanks Frank! I like how the flash makes the flowers pop off the background.

I did the dumbest thing out there. I shot a 5 shot bracket for an HDR shot, then promptly forgot to clear it. I spent the rest of the time struggling with my camera trying to figure out why my exposure was all over the damn place.

It wasn't until I got home and was looking at my shots all together that it suddenly dawned on me.

Jeez, I am such a bonehead sometimes.

Boy I sure don't see how Kristy can accuse us of generating too much testosterone this week.

Dean and Frank are doing flowers and I'm doing portraits. Must be global warming...

No worries Dean... Just ask Brian about the time he reached over and flipped switch on my camera.. It happens to us all.

My hubby and I spent the weekend down near Tucson. I was hoping to find some wildflowers down there, but no luck. I was amazed at how green the desert was! I'll get some pics posted as soon as I get around to processing.

Nice work everyone! I love the wildflowers!

So there's water flowing at one of my favorite hiking trails just outside of Tucson right now. I've had a couple shoots up there.

If anyone cares to see, they're at www.ariessun.com/new (external link)

Gotta warn ya, there's a bit of nudity in the gallery.

All of you guys never cease to amaze me with your beautiful pics.

I went looking for bald eagles again yesterday and came up empty.

I was at the Gerlach nature photography class all day on Saturday. It was well worth the $90 to me.
