Excuse me while I step way out on a limb...

My darling bride agreed to let me experiment on her in advance of shooting a family friend tomorrow afternoon and here's the pick of the litter. Please shred these at will...

Vigorous C&C Welcome...

#3 and 6 for me.... The others have too much going on in the way of shadows on her face and the background... (sorry.. i can be picky).

Hatch is right that if you underexpose the background, you'll be happier with the pop of your subject. I would meter the bg and go under by a bit, and then use the flash to illuminate the subject.

Using camera flashes outdoors in full sun can be difficult.. you are trying to overpower the sun with a source that isn't quite strong enough for hte job, so the results can be less than perfect IMO.... but I have a problem with expectations.

Really difficult to shoot when the sun is too sunny unless you are in a fully shaded area with the light bouncing back into your subject from the concrete. :) Reflectors for fill work nicely in this situation, and you could use your camera flash to give it a teensy bit of pop.. dial it down to -1/3 or -2/3 depending.. and bare flash will work.

Always remember when shooting women folk... ;) we like lots of soft light on our faces.. it makes us look *younger* and more radiant... a sure hit with any girl I know... shadows on our faces in the wrong places... just don't make us happy... (hee he)

Hope that helps a teensy bit.. I think Hatch did a great job of giving you the more "technical" side of what I just said.. but hey.. I'm a chick.. what'd ya want? lol...

Quick edit.. . tighter crop as the polka dots command more attention.... and boost saturation, contrast, warm it up.... little curves adjust...? I think the shots have the ability to clean up nicely.. but also
think you can perfect it more in camera to save time on the back end... ?

Before and after follows..... Hope you don't mind.. I can remove it if you like.. just say the word... (too warm maybe... ?)

Got to Cave Creek Rec Area too late to do much searching, and really didn't find much in the way of wildflowers. So I broke out my flashy thingy and had my buddy hold it camera right and shot this little bunch.

pretty.... :) I have a shot of that flower from a couple of years ago and it has been one of my favorites. :) I hope to find one again this year.... :)

Boy I sure don't see how Kristy can accuse us of generating too much testosterone this week.

Dean and Frank are doing flowers and I'm doing portraits. Must be global warming...

okay, okay, okay... so for ONE DAY... your testosterone levels took a small dip..... Are you guys ovulating or something? And don't get all emotional on me either....:lol:

All of you guys never cease to amaze me with your beautiful pics.

I went looking for bald eagles again yesterday and came up empty.

I was at the Gerlach nature photography class all day on Saturday. It was well worth the $90 to me.

S.C.

how was that class? I really wanted to go but it was my wifes birthday that day so I spent the day with her. $90 sounded like a great value for a full days worth of training.

Does anyone here do stock photography by chance? I just received a referral from a client needing stock photography and unfortunately I have no experience in that avenue. If any of you do, please pm me and i'll fill you in on the details. This is local and their office is up by Scottsdale Airpark.

Thanks!
Eric

I've never heard of someone being hired up front to do "Stock" photography.

The class was both entertaining and educational for me. There were many "I didn't know that" moments and I hope that I can remember all the tips I learned and employ them when I'm shooting nature.

.

well, I've only shot a handfull of images but my initial impression is yes. Can't wait for this weekend, I'll be heading to the Superstitions and try some macro.

I got the lens thru B&H ($65 Canon instant rebate) and Bill me later for 6 months makes the lens very affordable!
