PicBug: Lovely flower shots!

Jay: I second Kristy's 'Gahhhh!' Can't wait to see more pics from the lens. The one of the AV8-er (get it?) is SHARP.

Hey Jay, I have some questions on shooting in Tucson tomorrow you may be able to help with.

I'll have my 30D and 7D with me.
I'll also have my 400mm F/5.6L and my 70-200 F/2.8L IS.
I could also bring a lower-end 100-300 I have.
Will my 70-200 have enough reach on either of my cameras? (1.6 crop)
I figured I would check out a couple spots while down there, trying to get as close as safely/properly/legally possible.

S.C.

Hi Scott,

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner but I litterally just walked in the door from Tucson Day 1 and am dumping images off as I type this.

We pretty much divided our time today between "The Guardrail" (Alvernon + Contractors Way area) and "Wilmot" (Valencia & Wilmot .. just east of the Pima Museum entrance) because the winds were very fickle and they flipped the runways several times.

Tomorrow (Friday) may just be more of the same so I'd bring everything you've got because different locations call for differing amounts of glass.

We don't know for sure yet but there is a possiblity that the Guardrail may be closed from 1pm to 3pm for TBirds practice since it's fairly close to directly under their flightpath. For sure the "Contractors Way" spot will be closed then.

We'll be at "The Hill" starting at around 8am or so and then moving to "The Guardrail" after around 11am after the sun moves a bit.

Check your PM for some reference to all of the above...

Hope we see you down there tomorrow.

- Jay

Nice work Jay. Looks like the 500mm is a keeper. Have you tried it with the TC ?

The obligatory Duck from yesterday was actually with the 1.4X TC...

I'll probably give it a whirl tomorrow for DM Part II :D

Ok, maybe I don't need the 300 as a WA lens. The 500 seems to get the entire subject in the frame just fine...

I could have used the 300 2.8 today, and yesterday, and last week. . .

I need to see if I can find a nice used one . . . and a money tree.

Parents were out visiting and wanted to go to Sedona so went with them to try out the new Tamron 17-50 f2.8 with hoya filters. First time shooting and that in almost a year so need to get back in the hang of things a little. Wish I had more time to make a few stops but the traffic with construction sucked
