Appreciate the confirmation, FlyingPhotog-san. :)

Which reminds me - you were treated unfairly in the 'panning' thread and I would like to see you come back and post. Your stuff, is, of course, bw!

'Not panning' because the sky is the background and therefore doesn't look blurred by motion? Hogwash! I didn't respond because I didn't see the exchange until many days later, but that was just silly.

So I have a dilema, usually I never mind having images stolen and used for websites and such, but yesterday I was browsing through an online version of a magazine, and low and behold one of my images smacks me in the face. This image is being used in an ad were the space to advertise cost roughly $1000.00 per month. Also, the image being used has a reference to the wrong place. So there is a bit of "false" advertising/marketing going on here.

I'm not sure how to handle this, and again I usually don't mind, but it seems wrong on this one.

Should I just send a bill for like 10k with a note and see what happens? Just kidding..(Kind of)

Kenny..

Hi everyone:mrgreen: Thank you for the kind and toasty welcome !
I am honestly looking to try anything new--and see how I feel about it, since I've had opportunities to do mostly flora and landscapes I seem to like that genre. Also with regards to knowledge, I've been checking out kenrockwell & how-to's online. Do you guys have any recommendations on links, tutorials or books to check out that will help things 'click', I am quite uneasy with my camera I feel somewhat incompetent to put it nicely- Where are your favorite places to go, any places to avoid in this heat?

All of you are light years ahead of me so Im glad you are all willing to help :).

Kristy thank you, I will head to B&N and check that out, maybe it'll clarify things out for me.

Thanks again ;)

Hey Dean. I'm going to Laguna soon. I was thinking of renting a 300mm ƒ/2.8 but I think I'm just going to borrow a buddy's 1.4 extender and use it with my 70-200mm ƒ/2.8 IS.
Any last minute advice? Good places to post up besides the Corkscrew? I was thinking that Rainey Curve may be a good place too.

Turn 4 is a good spot, also the exit on turn 5.

There may be the marine layer in the mornings during practice, so you may have to open up the lens or bump up the ISO. That teleconverter doesn't help the situation.

That's out at Speedworld at the mudbog races.

Let me know next time you are going out there. It's not far at all for me.

Have a great time and enjoy the local food. The Monterey area has some of the best food on the planet. Go to Phils for some cioppino.

I should be there, but I was scheduled for a hip replacement around the same time, and I really need it done. So, I sold my tickets. There's always next year.

A shot from last year.

Everyone great images of the fireworks...

Kenny,
Good luck with the situation with McGraw Hill - definitely worth pursuing.
I work for an education conglomerate that includes a few publishing companies so I'm curious how this plays out. Again, best of luck.

Thanks.. I spoke with XYZ Company who after doing some research indicated the photo for their ad came from the company that was in control of the job (main contractor) and the project was similar in nature to the location in AZ. So they basically referred me to this main company (ABC) who provided the image. So they are basically saying it's not there fault and also understand the location is not the location being portrayed.

So, I will call this other company in Vegas tomorrow and my expectation is they will try to dismiss it as a mistake. However, I can't except that. I explained to the XYZ company that my concern is for the customers that actually purchased to have large poster prints made. They did not get any files and the prints averaged between 350 and 450 depending on framing. So, I will send a bill to the company being advertised for $2400.00 with a net 30 day , and explain they can pursue this expense from the ABC company for providing them with an image in an inappropriate manner. That's the plan. I'm pretty sure it will go ok, but not without some work. Then, I will pursue the other online sites doing similar advertising. I have a hotel chain with a location here using it on there front page as a local attraction.

I'll update as time moves on.

Kenny..

Welcome aboard Suzie..!!
