Thanks.. I spoke with XYZ Company who after doing some research indicated the photo for their ad came from the company that was in control of the job (main contractor) and the project was similar in nature to the location in AZ. So they basically referred me to this main company (ABC) who provided the image. So they are basically saying it's not there fault and also understand the location is not the location being portrayed.

So, I will call this other company in Vegas tomorrow and my expectation is they will try to dismiss it as a mistake. However, I can't except that. I explained to the XYZ company that my concern is for the customers that actually purchased to have large poster prints made. They did not get any files and the prints averaged between 350 and 450 depending on framing. So, I will send a bill to the company being advertised for $2400.00 with a net 30 day , and explain they can pursue this expense from the ABC company for providing them with an image in an inappropriate manner. That's the plan. I'm pretty sure it will go ok, but not without some work. Then, I will pursue the other online sites doing similar advertising. I have a hotel chain with a location here using it on there front page as a local attraction.

I'll update as time moves on.

Kenny..

Welcome aboard Suzie..!!

You could also track down whoever does their web hosting and inform them that there is unauthorized content on the site in question. That will often open a "second front" on the offending party.

Even to the extent that the hosting entity will shut down a site until the owner complies...

Peekin' in..... *smiling and waving*

Hey Joyce, I forgot to say "CONGRATS" on the Discovery Channel thing... that is so awesome. I left a note on FB for ya.

Great shot with hte S90 Dean... In the right hands, the camera does great things... we have to give you some credit for the final outcome. :D

Welcome SUZIE!! Do you have a place where you upload your photos for sharing? What kind of stuff do you like to shoot? We definitely have tons of talent in the thread, and a wide variety of shooting interests.... so most of what you need help with should be covered. For starters, I'd suggest reading a book called "Understanding Exposure" by Bryan Peterson... a lightbulb will go off, and you'll be on your way to shooting in Manual (if you aren't alreadY)... and seeing improvements in your shots. :)

great book! I had one of those...but I forgot either where I had left it or to whom I had entrusted it to...hope it's being put to good use.

Have a great time and enjoy the local food. The Monterey area has some of the best food on the planet. Go to Phils for some cioppino.

I should be there, but I was scheduled for a hip replacement around the same time, and I really need it done. So, I sold my tickets. There's always next year.

A shot from last year.

Thanks Scott. I'm planning on going to Cannery Row at least one night. Very nice shot!!

I wish you the best with your hip surgery.

Funny you should mention that Kristy, I was just coming to suggest a Lighting/Strobist get together (Model/Subject in front- Sunset/Bonfire in back.
Maybe we could do both???

The digital photography book: the step-by-step secrets for how to make your photos look like the pros'! by Scott Kelby

There is a set of 3, Great starter books, maybe borrow-used-library???

Hi everyone:mrgreen: Thank you for the kind and toasty welcome !
I am honestly looking to try anything new--and see how I feel about it, since I've had opportunities to do mostly flora and landscapes I seem to like that genre. Also with regards to knowledge, I've been checking out kenrockwell & how-to's online. Do you guys have any recommendations on links, tutorials or books to check out that will help things 'click', I am quite uneasy with my camera I feel somewhat incompetent to put it nicely- Where are your favorite places to go, any places to avoid in this heat?

All of you are light years ahead of me so Im glad you are all willing to help :).

Kristy thank you, I will head to B&N and check that out, maybe it'll clarify things out for me.

Thanks again ;)

These often show up for sale at Costco for well below the usual book store price. That's where I got mine.

Definately worth having in one's collection.

Welcome and great port! I love the lightning shots. What's your trick to capturing those? Now that I have a new camera and some better lenses I plan on doing a lot of storm chasing this season. I just hope we have some good monsoon weather to work with.

Regarding the lightning shots, Tripod is a must. I always use LiveView mode to focus on some far point of light and use Manual Focus, gaff tape to lock the focal point. Don't trust the 'infinity' mark on the focus ring, I've found that the true inifinity focal point is about 1/16 to the left (under?) the inifinity mark on most of my Canon L lenses.

A shutter release is a must, intervlometer is helpful. I bought several of the cheap Chinese version from GadgetInfinity for $35 each rather than the Canon unit for 120. The Canon connectors on the chinese units are the weakest link.

Typically lightning will hit from the same active thundercell. I normally use 15-30 sec exposure time, and then adjust ISO and aperature for the exposure, depending on how much ambient is available or if I want silhouettes, etc.

for processing, I normally stack two or three frames and use the lighten blend mode in Photoshop. Sometimes you need to match the colors of the layers (shoot RAW!) before flattening. Anchors in the frame, such as a building, mountain, or better - a thicket of saguaros is a must to give perspective.

Here's hoping for fun season! Hope to begin shooting THIS WEEKEND! I'm out in 'San Tan Valley', so anyone interested in a lightning meetup, shoot me a msg. I've scouted a few good spots around the Superstions (First Water and Peralta Trail rds) where there are stands of saguaros.

Charge your batteries and Ground yourselves!
