Here is my first ever video I shot with my 7D. I shot it this afternoon up at S. Mountain. I took a vid of my buddies G35. It's super basic and nothing special by any means. I shot 5 clips i believe and simply merged them together using Windows Movie Maker and added an mp3 for some background music.

I have a great Manfrotto 3265 (external link) pistol grip ball/head for photos but when it comes to video it's the worst you can use by far. I really need to buy a different ball/head for strictly video. One that I can pan with, as you'll see in the video i cannot pan with it at all. I could have panned better doing it hand held.

Body:
Canon 7D

Lenses used in this video:
70-200mm f/4 IS
11-16mm f/2.8
24-70mm f/2.8

Bogen Tripod
Manfrotto 3265 ball/head

Settings:
720p 60fps and default values

Experience:
noob, first video shot!

Editing software:
Windows Movie Maker in Win7

Video Rating on a scale of 1 to 10: two

Thanks for watching!

Eric

Thank You my Dear.

I looked for you on LDRS but the crowd shots were too quick to identify anyone. Looked like a very cool event (and Keri Byron is HAWT!) Ahem, sorry...

So, what was your post about "Middle of the Pacific..." about on FB? Headed to Hawaii?

I concur...

Thanks Dean. was happy the lens works fine at 1.8. and the lit wall with all the colors was a nice bg to the white flower.
Doug, great baseball shots! wish I could get up that close. But I got to sit in the bleacher seats for the first time tonight. got my free Uptown towel. But did not get some good shots. I needed the 2x teleconverter for anything interesting from my seat. But I did get some cool concert shots (I think) won't know till I upload them. these darn 1.8" screens show me nothing! :-P :-D
anyways, I'll post tomorrow if I find anything good...or maybe on sunday. goodnight!

If anyone is interested:
If you are not familiar with Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep please take a look at the web site www.nilmdts.org (external link).

It is an amazing way to provide a needed volunteer service with your camera. There is a tremendous need for photographers willing to share their skills with families in this trying time.

If you already are a NILMDTS photographer perhaps you can help a bit more by becoming an area coordinator.

I received this message from Greg. "We are in desperate need for an Area Coordinator and photographers for John C Lincoln Hospital. If you think you would be interested, please contact Greg Utton at 480-464-1228 or greg@uttonphotography.com (external link)

Since Greg sent this message I received a request from the organization that listed 3 hospitals in the Phoenix area in need of an Area Coordinator. Greg will have the information you need....

Phoenix decides on $2 fee at some parks

The new fee is to help the city cope with recent budget constraints. The money generated will go into the city's general fund but parks and recreation board members hope to have the money funneled back into the parks department to ensure no continued loss of programming or staffing

I don't have an issue paying to maintain the parks... great places to visit and shoot. The White Tanks charge $6 per vehicle... I'm cool with that... :) Why wouldn't the $2 to visit go straight back to the parks and not the "General" fund...aka...any special project the politicians want to spend money on.

How many parks were shut down due to the lack of funding?

Interesting times we are living in...

Yeah hatch glad you brought this up, I was watching the local news last night and saw the segment that they did on this.

it really is interesting times you can definitely say that again. first the "1cent tax" or she we all say the "1% tax" and now park fees. also they are starting to shut down a lot of rest stop areas on the highways.

I liked it because it shows the effort of trying to work with the different lenses and set-up. In Movie maker, did it accept the native 7d file format?

I've been experimenting with video as well. and have been transcoding them on the Mac to ProRes 422 which makes the editing so much faster. The video has been a pretty big learning curve for me because I have to learn the editing software at the same time. I found an awesome resource at http://www.izzyvideo.com/learn-final-cut-express/ (external link)

I find it very easy to learn at the speed in manner he works at.

Thanks for sharing.

While $2 sounds better than $5, it's still a steep tax on those who do park at one of the five designated trail-heads. Even at $2, that's about $100/year for those who hike weekly. Many of us, for now, hike at least three times a week. At least there's a proposal for a $50 six-month pass, too.

Still, most people don't park at the trail-heads. Many park on side-streets, instead.

I have Canon gear. SX1 IS, two 7D bodies and mostly f/2.8 lenses 10mm-200mm, doubler, and 17/4 TSE, some 580EX IIs. Additional portable lighting gear, and tripod with 360 pano mount. Want two 7D II bodies.

Looks like a worthwhile cause, Randy.

Sadly, I, personally, have zero experience photographing infants.

I have several friends who shoot for NILMDTS in the valley and they deserve very high praise for their efforts. Far, far too intense a scene for me to ever get into. And I don't even have kids!

As I mentioned... no issues with the fees... the parks need to be maintained. Just wish the money went straight to the parks and not the general fund.

Anyone shoot anything interesting this weekend? I'm about to shoot some gym equipment for Craigslist. LOL Nothing exciting going on here... need to get out and shoot before I forget how to use the camera. It's been awhile.:D

Have a fun rest of the weekend all.

When I went up to Valle a couple weeks ago, every rest area on I-17 was closed. Coming back from Disneyland, all but one rest area on I-10 was closed.

This is the logic I don't understand. People aren't going out and spending money so parks are hurting so let's make it more difficult for people to go out and do things.

What am I missing here?

For a state with a large tourism industry... you would think the focus would be to promote the parks on all levels... and figure out how to generate funds that will benefit the parks bringing in money and... if there is $ left... then dump it in the "general fund".... Is Red Rock closed down now? I thought I read somewhere the locals figured out a way to keep it open?

On another note.... if you are in the market.... https://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=900392

Today is the day.... just saved an additional $150 using the stacked rebates on the 35L purchase. It wasn't as hard as I thought it would be...

Canon rebates expire tonight... Bing cash back at the end of the month.

FUN!
