Doug how did you do this with the 10mm. Post or some kind of shutter dragging?
(If it was the 10mm,exif says so and it looks it)

Thanks..

Kenny,

EXIF don't lie, or at least I don't know how to make it lie . . .

I was trying to do some panning shots of runners heading to first base (with my 24mm-70mm lens) and I switched lens to my 10mm-22mm and forget to change my shutter speed. I had my shutter speed set at 1/100 for the panning and when Alfonso Soriano struck out I was panning him heading back into the dugout. (I'd love to say I set out to get a shot like this, but sadly it is a happy accident that I will now try to improve upon the next time I shoot stuff).

So it's 10mm-22mm EF-S on my 30D (second body) at 10mm, Shutter Speed 1/100 and ISO 400. There was no flash, it's all natural light (well stadium lights).

Is that what you are asking me? It's like dragging the shutter only without the flash.

ahhhhhh,,,,, well that explains it then. A most excellent shot and I can see it being a happy accident. It would be a nice technique to improve upon/master..

Thanks for sharing, that's exactly what I was asking.

Yea, if you could see his face or his eyes, or he was engaged a bit more somehow it would be a keeper. As it is, it's a neat shot because of the panning and motion around him but without the eyes, sadly it's a reject shot . . .

I've been trying some more "slow-shutter speed" stuff" because of the image of the Washington Nationals pitcher that made it into the Post (I'm guessing everybody knows what image I'm talking about) it's fun but hard to get creative with baseball, or any sports for that matter.

Not slow speed, but another example of a blown shot . . .

Vasquez had just finished pitching out of a jam and was doing that cross thing and looking to the sky (God) while returning to the dugout, and just at the right moment, Chris Synder the catcher walked right in front of me . . . I mean what was he thinking.

Or trying to get creative with the pools of light at the stadium.

Thanks, that one is NOT a reject shot, although I can't figure out why one of their pitchers was wandering around in center field?

Changed my Antelope Canyon tour after reading tons of websites and reviews as well as watching Youtube videos. Judging by the photos on line, one would believe it's a quite kind of place. The first tour had mixed reviews, but the overall feeling I got was to try another.

I'm going with http://www.aacpth.com/index.shtml (external link) or Carol Bigthumb. Apparently they have a good reputation and have private access to other parts of the area. So, a couple of more bucks, but I feel I'll have a better chance at getting good images and having a great time. Also plan on doing Rattlesnake Canyon..

I will be heading straight to Monument Valley and hope to catch the sunrise and the dude that rides his horse, , and then back to Page for the night and the morning tour. Probably will try to do Horse shoe Bend at that time as well. Anyway,,,, can't wait. Should be nice and peaceful as I'm going it alone...

Kenny..

Kenny,

Some things to take into account (just my opinion, from my experience):

The floor of those canyons are filled with ground up sandstone and very small particles of silica dust, which the guides will toss up into the air to show the columns of light . . .

this is great and looks very cool . . . until you realize how much very, very fine dust is getting into your photography equipment!!!! Changing lens' is like the dumbest idea in the world under those conditions, let alone the amount of dust into your zoom lens and on the outside of your camera body. There is very fine dust floating in the air almost all day in those canyons and you just can't get away from it.

The columns of light are very cool but in reality very hard to capture the dynamic range with a digital camera. The difference between the bright highlight areas and the walls of the canyon is several stops beyond the range of today's digital cameras. You could HDR some stuff and make it work but with a single shot . . . it seems a bit tough to me.

All of the "award winning" shots taken in the canyon are shot with sheet film, that means a view camera, basically a bellows, a lens plate with lens and a sheet film cartridge.

The film gives you a much greater dynamic range and the camera is much easier to clean the dust from . . .

Before digital cameras is how the guides really understand the concept of getting images in these canyons and if you really think about everything they know about photography and these canyons is based on that "film" methodology.

I'm not saying you can't get good images, just some things to keep in mind during your adventure.

Have fun.

Kenny,

Some things to take into account (just my opinion, from my experience):

Hummm... Thanks Doug, I was planning on bracketing my exposures for HDR'ing. I think that's the only way to get close to capturing the range. I decided to leave my RC stuff home , but will be taking my QTVR camera and lens. My hope is to get a good fisheye of Indian bend. I don't know we'll see. That's good advice about the dust. I plan on entering with my 10-22 and hope for the best.

Yesterday was the first time I tried cleaning my sensor by myself. It was a both a pain and yet simple. I had to run several swabs to get it all. However, prior to doing this, I noticed a large "spot" on the sensor and after all the cleaning the spot remains. I called Canon and they are sending me a return slip for when I get back. Hopefully it's something simple. It still takes great shots, I just don't want the warrantee to pass before having it checked.

Thanks for the tips. :)

Stopped at TTL last night due to boredom.

For me, it's hard to get a decent shot I like. I think there's just to many darn wires and poles that get in the way..

Heres a couple edits..

Ok, here's a post. :)

I was at a friend's house this weekend for a shoot and his grandkids wanted to be in the photo. I took a couple of quick snaps of them and this one I really screwed up - was totally blown out, but for some reason I kinda liked the effect. So I twiddled with it some but haven't quite got the end result I was hoping for. Not even sure I can articulate what look I am going for, but I am close, so perhaps you can help me make it the rest of the way. :)

Any suggestions? Feel free to play with it if you want.
