Show OCF question

hey everyone!
love the cars/bikes/planes, landscapes & babies! i think only thing we're missing some food shots... :)

my contribution & poling for feedback:
i was a volunteer at a talent show fund-raiser a couple weeks ago and helped take pictures of the performers. it was my 1st time taking pictures in low light + fast paced and then had to switch modes to my OCF for some backstage shots. initially, i tried using my flash to freeze the dancers during rehearsal, but those images didn't look right, so i stopped doing so.

suggestions on what would be the best way to tackle this? feedback on how i could do better? thanks for your guy's input! what would you guys have done in such a situation?

---
#1) zombies! had to crank up the ISO.

#2) group shot; a bit over exposed... i was trying to figure out the best way to light them. should i have dialed back on the flash power? not use the flash?

A couple of plastic boxes that have some electronics, metal, & glass parts attached to it.

Why not bounce the flash off something?

You say OCF (Off Camera Flash) but it appears to be OCF (On Camera Flash), or maybe you said On-Camera when you wanted Off-Camera . . .

Either way, off camera is always better and you still can bounce.

I could post some food if you really want . . .

How about this instead:

Cool motorcycle shots.. I like the graffitti wall.. (how do you spell that anyway? duh..)
Might want to work on some of the shadow around the lower third of the frame.. I bet you can pull a little more detail out of there with a teensy curves tweak. ;)

Love your new Crosswind Jay... very cool indeed! Congrats on pressing forward.. your site looks so clean and well put-together. :)

Joyce, I think you did well with the shots, but I'm not a tough critic. It was journalistic in nature, and you did the best with what you had available. :) I think shooting high ISO on the stage stuff was an excellent call on your part.. even if there are some oof shots due to movement.. you captured the feeling of the scene very well...

Flash.. I agree about bouncing it, I do it all the time.. but I'm so not proficient with my flash, and it's always mounted on camera as I have no bracket or off shoe cord... I am a bouncing fool though..... haha..

One of my baby shots... I usually do most of the posing, but I get a wild itch to shoot, and can't resist a baby in a cute little hat..... I made Hatch take a back seat for this set... until he grabbed his macro lens... and it was all over.. lol.. We make a great team and I enjoy watching the shots as the progress... anyway... babies are so precious... difficult subjects to pose, but the end result always makes me smile. :)

I see where it needs to go so I'll try and make that happen. I need to play with the homepage layout some as well. I'm starting to think the slideshow is little too much "in your face" so maybe I'll see if I can make that just a little bit smaller.

Nice job on the FavIcon. :) Looks good.

Sorry I don't really know how to do this that well but well I like any photography I just love to Lear and get better but the baseball one was in a magazine and it's the one with the kids hair flying everywhere and thanks for looking at it

Congrats on the magazine shot!

Ok, still tweaking but...

Full Color Logo over an image:

Logo knocked down to B&W and used as a very light, 10% watermark:

I'm thinking maybe I should remove the aicraft instrument from the watermark version? Yes? No?

I'm kind of leaning in the same direction... just for the watermark. It doesn't look bad in the full color version, but it is a bit distracting in the faded B&W one.

Cool shots everyone!

Rick and I got together today to work on a little off camera flash... very nice to meet you Rick! Had a fun afternoon in the nice cool weather. Only 104 out... not bad...HA HA!!

A few shots.. just snaps... messing around with different lenses ... settings...etc.

1st one is with the flash... rest are natural light. He shot some of me... SCARY... we need to hire models or something... yikes on my shots.

You two ... nice mug shots!

Was that atop South Mountain?

We should do a Meetup group, ya know? It'd be much better than hunting through this thread for calendar of events.

I have Canon gear. SX1 IS, two 7D bodies and mostly f/2.8 lenses 10mm-200mm, doubler, and 17/4 TSE, some 580EX IIs. Additional portable lighting gear, and tripod with 360 pano mount. Want two 7D II bodies.
