I just got a G3 and am very happy with the results...I expect to have some questions as I get into it...and I'll try to search before asking...

Today's question...
When I view RAW images on the LCD they are very soft, almost pixelated, so much so that I thought something was broken either with the LCD or the focusing mechanism...until I shot some JPEGs and they look tack-sharp...

....so I uploaded the RAW images to my PC and they look perfectly fine there...so no problem...I guess...still, I'm just wondering why? Anyone experience this?

Thanks for your input...

That is normal behavior, more noticeable if you zoom the LCD to see the image:

On the camera, you see only a small jpg thumbnail of the RAW image (640x480 pixels on the Pro1) once downloaded, you see the full size image.

EDIT:
Correction: You can not use the ‘zoom LCD’ feature while shooting RAW on the G3, but the small thumbnail thing still applies.

Yep, this is normal. However, your RAW files will look great once you get them on your computer. I do so love my G3. That was my first true digital camera and I have taken some of my favorite photos with it!

Beautiful shot...just beautiful.
I understand what you're saying, but what I'm seeing is that the photo shot as a JPEG file (shot in green box mode) enlarges in the LCD just fine...but the RAW file photo when enlarged in the LCD looks like garbage....just very STRANGE....
anyway...here's a quickshot I got today...

Yes, that photo was taken in .JPG format. I didn't have the proper processing program back then to handle RAW files efficiently (BreezeBrowser Pro).

Just consider this strange quirk a "feature" of the camera and go out and take some great photos! ;)
