I'm having trouble deciding which is more appropriate for this scene.

Another vote for the B&W, there's just not enough vivid color in the color version imo.

Thanks kindly to everyone for their feedback on this...much appreciated!

I was leaning toward the b&w rendition also but wasn't 100% sure at the time which process did the picture more justice.

And apologies for labeling the pictures, color and b&w! I'm pretty sure everyone is working with a color monitor these days and is not color blind! ;) ...but you never know! :p
