After purchasing a second-hand lens from USA I am annoyed to see that it has been awaiting customs charges for 3 days. I accept that I may have to pay but why should it take 4 days for them to decide how much. This will definately be my last purchase from USA. A recent purchase from Japan on a Sunday arrived at work on the following Tuesday (no parcel force). They should try using a little more force on themselves. Every dealing I've had with them they came across as doing me a favour.

Ive been put off ordering from the States as well. I recently picked up a Blackrapid strap from their website, totalling around £35 including pp.

Customs then charged me £13.50 import tax! Thats near enough 40%

This is the risk you take. In the old days it could be worth it. With exchange rates as they are I just don't see the point importing stuff.

I might be tempted to purchase while im over (2 weeks time) although the exchange rate is making it look barely worth it.
