Great shot. The only thing that bothers me about that photo is there are some flat gray areas in the clouds (toward the top center area) due to Recovery. To avoid that, you can try an Exposure gradient on the sky, in conjunction with Recovery.

Excellent thanks for that, its all about learning so i appreciate the comment. :D

Derek, I'd say you are on track with your learning curve -- that's a nice "early shot"!

I guess I personally would try more Fill/Shadow/Dark boosting for the foreground, simply because, with the sun still up, I assume that what you saw would show more light on the scene. Of course, these are the challenges we face, and bring out the real value in Raw shooting!

As to the sky, I don't know about fussing over the clouds. That's a balancing act. You can play with a Gradient -- one of the great things about a Raw workflow is that you can't "wreck" anything, you can easily undo/redo something. In fact, one very useful tool in Lightroom is the ability to create Virtual Copies and create new versions with different things applied -- like the version above, then a version with a gradient.

But I would suggest tinkering with the blue sky a bit -- the color balance in your After shot is different, not as blue. Maybe playing in the HSL toolkit will get some cool results!

Heh! I don't know 'bout "brilliant", but I do tend to have some time on my hands during business hours...but no, I didn't recently stay at a Holiday Inn, so...:)!

Hmm, I see what you did...

But, a couple things! First, the left side of the image is so different from the right side, both the sky as well as the foreground, that it's impossible to appreciate what you've done!

So, my request is that first you go back and read the guidelines, especially the request of posting a good-size Before and After image -- a couple images compressed into a Lightroom screen shot is really not adequate for us to really fully apperciate your work in this thread!

And then, post the full Before image! Show us what the After image looked like before processing!

Then, a full-size after will have us able to best appreciate it!

Then, your only screen shot will just need the settings. You can "trim" that little bit and post it without needing the images and the left panel!

You can edit your post by putting in the "proper" pieces and just deleting the one big screen shot...

And, thanks for jumping in here!

My post has been edited as requested.

Awesome! That before shot would make anyone despondent but your effort is incredible.

Well done. Impressive and creative use of LR. the final is a bit 'cartoonish' but I think that's what you were aiming for.

Adam, thanks for your contribution!

Please review the thread intro, about including Raw settings from your conversion in your post, and check out the entries here that demonstrate that, using a screen shot or a detailed list!

Again, thanks!

Many thanks. The photo was backlit and the original idea was to jut have the titles in color but that result was a bit boring so decided to boost up the editing skills on the shot. I actually did all that in CS5 :S

Umm, please explain! Are you saying you did all (or any) of the editing in the Photoshop editor (not Camera Raw only)?

If so, please take the time to read the thread "Intro", and especially take note of the clear guideling that this thread is for "RAW processing only, no Photoshopping allowed!".

So, if that's the case, I'm afraid we need to ask you to delete your post, and then, if you wish to contribute, take a look at Raw processing!

If I'm mistaken, please let me know!
