These are all great examples of what you can do with raw images.I haven't read all of this thread, but it looks to me as if 99% of the responders use Lightroom for their conversions. Anyone here use DPP or maybe Paintshop Pro to do this? Or maybe I need to go on and order LR.

If you are wanting to go that way get the LR5 Beta here http://labs.adobe.com/: (external link))

FYI:

LR5 Beta is out.

Cheers.

I've been playing with it, some pretty interesting changes. The "spot" grad filter is particularly interesting. The new customizable (size/shape) spot healing tool... okay, but not outstanding.

I just got 4 and don't see alot of real additions to it, some for sure but nothing lens shattering. This is my opinion and maybe for some it will be awesome.

Yup I like cigars. 7d, T1i and a bunch of other junk.

the main thing we're looking for is speed, though.

I here you. I got LR4 3 wks ago +- and have been going through my catalog of pics (5 years of DSLR stuff) and find it somewhat slow, I do have 16gb of ram and a fairly fast comp. In all fairness I think it may be the external HD I use too.

Great job Jam13 .... that's an awesome city scape. A+

I have an SSD drive. LR4 is still pretty slow. Computer boots up in 13 seconds to Win 7 though :)

Do you have a certain preset that you start off with before tweaking?

Slow down. This is the first beta. Adobe releases new functions in "installments". Usually the final product has a feature that nobody in the public beta has seen. As usual, software makers sometimes deliver unworthy stuff.

@ those, who complain about slow LR4...proper setup is the key for speed.

BTW, I do not want to hijack this thread...there is a lot over in the computer and software thread.

Google can be your friend too...:)

Cheers.

Thanks Roshan :)

I don't use presets at all! I don't believe in using them. Every photo is ALWAYS different. I always start from scratch for every new shot that I open in Lightroom.

I will have online tutorials/videos coming soon on my website and youtube channel, if everything works out over the coming months or so. So subscribe to www.jamesmcgregorphotos.com (external link) if you are interested in learning some great techniques!
