What follows are three shots taken last night at Aw Faw Palace in Baghdad. All three are details of the chandelier that hangs in the great room of the palace. I was quite pleased with how they came out, in particular because the exposure was a bit tricky for me. The first is an HDR image. (I apologize for the "Photomatix Trial" text , but I'm traveling and don't have a licensed copy on my laptop. Just too cheap to spring for another license when I have a copy at home;)) The second is included for reference as it constitutes the "middle" layer of the HDR. Anyway, here they are. All comments and critiques are welcome and very much appreciated.

Nothing? Ok, I'm depressed, and so very, very alone.

Thanks Gail! I can put the rope and pills away now;-)a I think you are right about the crops on the first two, particularly on the HDR. All three shots were hand held, so I ended up having to crop a lot (and from an already perhaps over-tight crop) to straighten the image. Any idea why the colors would vary so much between image 1 and 2? 1st is obviously too blue. My guess is it would be a white balance issue, but I don't quite understand why. The HDR is comprised of three RAW images with a synched WB. Wierd.

And thanks Perfarny. I like it too. Seemed almost mandala-like to me when I first saw it. In truth, though, I was more geeked that I got a decent exposure. Bob Lay's posts here have turned me into a cumpulsive histogram checker. I'm learning.

I really like these shots. The first two look like the inside of an alien ship :)

I am not a huge fan of HDR photography but you pulled this one off without making anything look artificial.

The only thing I notice is the first two appear to be leaning left a bit. It could be optical illusion......I didnt open these up in CS3 and check the horizon.

Cheers!

Thanks, Evol. And of course you are right, they are leaning to the left. Shots were hand held. I straightened them in PS as much as I could without losing critical detail, but I couldn't get that center line plum. The good news is I'll be able to do a re-shoot, next time with tripod and spirit level in hand.
