Water bugs

hello,

here are a couple pictures of waterbugs that i took on a small pond on the muskeg today. also a colorful little mystery plant that was attached to a dead stump. new to my 100 mm 2.8 macro. any ideas on how to improve would be appreciated. i see why they say wind is not good. i had fun though.

Good captures - think #3 is a small fungus.

Assume these are natural light shots ?
~1 is very good- only critique would be on the composition where the bug is a bit central in the frame- try to give them more room in the direction they are looking.

Natural light can give lovely colour but is hard to shoot around 1:1 magnification or higher. Flash helps here if the camera is used in M mode with smallish apertures as it becomes the major light source and helps freeze motion (shutter speed= flash duration).

Thanks for the comments. I will make sure to leave some more room ahead of them next time. These sort of things help me as I am new to this and often do not have the time to read what I should.

These are natural light pictures. Saturday found me on my belly next to a puddle on the muskeg. Should I bring my flash next time? We finally had clear skies so I never thought to bring a flash. I do shoot in M. I also shoot jpeg.

Really, a flash? Will give it a try. Thanks for reading this.

you will get sharper shots using flash
