Just this Saturday i was out on a shoot, have the 50mm 1.8 II mounted on my 50D for the duration of the shoot, packed my gear up with the 50mm mounted (usually i have my 24-105 mounted when stored away) now i can't remove the lens! :( everything works fine, AF etc. takes perfect pictures, but when i try to unmount it rotates 1/4 of the way and it stuck there, i tried rotating while pulling but that didnt work either, any ideas before i send it back to canon?

thanks in advance :o

There was a thread with almost the same problem a few weeks ago, sounds like something in the lens mount broke needing a fair bit of force to get it shifted.

some fairly old canon camera stuff, canon lenses, Manfrotto "thingy", and an M5, also an M6 that has had a 720nm filter bolted onto the sensor:

I think the most common problem is a loose screw on the mount of the lens. The head of the screw is now blocking the path to removal. Try holding the lens at different angles and shaking it while trying to remove it.

If it's a screw protruding slightly (it happens), try this:

Get an automotive feeler gage and slip the thinnest leaf (probably .002" or .05mm thick) in the space between the lens and the camera on the left side of the lens near the release button. This may keep the screw from catching on the slot in the mount.

Excellent!

Y'know, I've read three or four threads about stuck lenses and while I can't say for sure, it seems to me they've all involved the 50 f/1.8. Anyone else notice that? Or not?

It'd be a good idea for owners of this lens to check screws once in a while...

Yes, indeed. It does happen to certain lenses more than others. But, I say we all should be checking all the screws on every lens once in a while.
