I did some searching on the forums but couldn't find an answer so I thought I'd ask. I have an Epson 2400 printer and I'm trying to print 4x6's. Problem is when I go to print my photos the prints end up being cropped tighter. I've tried playing with the print settings in Lightroom but nothing has helped. Anybody have any suggestions on what I might be doing wrong?

p.s. ppi was at 240 (default) if that makes a difference

Installed new Epson 2400 drivers and ICC profiles. Changed settings in Lightroom accordingly for new drivers and profiles. I turned off color management in the Epson drivers to let Lightroom control it. Been turning settings on and off in layout to see if anything makes a change. Its still cropping all my photos slightly for some reason. Could still use some help if anybody knows what might be the problem. :D

p.s. should mention I'm printing borderless.

Thanks

How much is being cropped? When printing borderless prints the printer will often crop off some of the image just slightly (at least mine does, and Costco usually does it as well). If it is just a little bit then you should be able to add a stroke around the image to compensate (which is what Dry Creek Photo recommends for Costco prints).

Thanks Mike for taking time to reply,

Its like you said its just a little bit of crop. Its enough to be annoying because I spend time in Lightroom pp'ing and I'm not getting what I see. I'll try adding the stroke around it and see how it does. I guess an alternative is to crop a little wider but its a little tricky being accurate. I tried some test prints of this last nite.

I did a bunch of researching on the internet for this issue and I wasn't able to find anything. Can only assume this doesn't happen a lot?

On the good side I think I read every tutorial on printing and cropping for Lightroom so I did a little learning too :D

Check out this tutorial that I mentioned on Dry Creek Photo in my first post (toward the bottom):

While it doesn't pertain to Lightroom's printing I use the same method for most of my printing as I have experienced the same crop issue on more than one occasion. Cropping a little more loosely would also do the trick. It shouldn't take much, I think about 3% is what I usually add to my canvas size when using PS so try out different stroke sizes to see which works best.

Oh wow  ... I think I understand now. Let me see if I got this right. When I would print a photo I lost about 1-2% of my image due to the printer cropping which is normal? So I can compensate for that by cropping the original image a bit larger or set the stroke border setting just enough that I don't see the border but I dont hardly lose any image?

Yes. I think the amount of the crop depends on the printer being used so it may take some testing to see how much you need.

Thats awesome. I played around with different stroke settings and was able to find much better compromises. I'll just have to be a little more careful about my cropping.

Thanks for the help Mike :D
