I have been in the wedding business for a while now and photographed my first Islamic Muslim wedding ceremony over the weekend. It was very interesting to learn an entirely different culture and wedding structure. I was definitely out of my element - the ceremony was a two day event, Friday the ceremony (Nikkah) and small feast for those in attendance, Saturday was the big feast (Walima).
It was a segregated wedding - the girls and guys were separate (culture shock for me) - the couple/families/guests could not have been nicer and more accommodating to me-- they were great people. The couple broke a few rules by having someone like me photograph their wedding--- and were very good at explaining the culture, practices, terms etc.
The couple was not allowed to touch and definitely not kiss in public-- (trust me - I tried to talk them into this) but was able to have a relative drop us off at a remote location for a few creative photos. Here is a quick sample of a couple photos:
