Hey, let's have a photo op of a bunch of guys running through an airport with automatic weapons! That'll be fun! Or we could take a doll and pretend to run it over with a truck. That would be fun too!

What is unbelievable is the fool that authorized that whole fiasco still has a job. All they had to do was notify the media and the mayor......totally ignorant.

Sounds too daft to be true but Governments the world over make daft moves like this every day!

Honestly it's the most ludicrous thing I've seen in a long time...and I don't understand why no one on the news has ask would it not have been cheaper (and safer) to have used photoshop. For the price it takes to fly that fighter jet off the runway they could have bought everything neccesary....S*** they probably could have purchased Canon itself for a fraction of the cost it took to fuel those planes.

Incredibly stupid.
Irresponsible waste of taxpayer's money.
Arrogant behaviour on the part of all those involved.....

But what's also interesting is how crap the videographers were!

I'm so happy I didn't buy a video camera when I was first thinking about a dSLR!

Obviously someone, somewhere screwed the pooch but it's not that unusual to take the SAM aircraft out for photo ops. Somebody thought having an image of SAM 28000 with the Statue of Liberty in the background would make a nice PR shot.

Nothing makes things break on an aircraft faster than just sitting so the 747s fly from time to time even if "the boss" isn't scheduled to go somewhere.

BTW, the FAA says they did notify the Mayor's Office...

Someone might want to spend a few minutes in photoshop and send a pic to the White House. Think of all the funny backgrounds one could come up with to be aback drop for Air Force One.

How does the President and the Joint Cheifs not know this is going on. It should fall under a military mission if it involves a fighter plane and Air Force One's back up plane flying this low. I cannot believe this.

Who the heck is getting paid to be this stupid.

All the wasted money on fuel and scared thousands half to death.

Finally, hallelujah someone with half a brain cell, I just herd Greta Van Susteren ask the most obvious question...would it not have been cheaper to have used photoshop...Thank you, captain obvious (unfortunatelly there are not many captain obviouses anymore).

The funny thing is that they are going to find out the total cost of the photo-op...that's not gonna be pretty

Photoshop CS4 = $600 vs Jet Fuel = $XXX,XXX,XXX ;)

Well, perhaps the photographer is a true film enthusiast and he wont touch digital....you never know.;)

They were supposed to keep it quiet -- cause, you know, we don't want anyone shooting it down with a stinger missile.
