I entered into a photo contest and the theme was 'signs'. They pretty much leave it to your interpretation.

I took a picture of an auto manufactures logo on the side of a building. I'm not going to use it for anything other than this contest. The applicants/winner gets nothing more than a pat on the back. No money/prizes or anything.

Is this ok?

Yes. Under the conditions you've outlined, the image qualifies as a work of art.

If you check the fine print of the contest, it's likely to say something about entries becoming the property of the sponsor. If they want to use it for their own promotions, getting permission will be their responsibility.

Cool, thanks man. I just didn't want VW to get butthurt about my photo of their logo. The contest is just between a small group of people. We're the only ones that are going to be viewing, voting on the photos. I think the most participants we ever had was like 19. And thats a big maybe.
