I took some shots for a local pianist/guitar player, and i wanted some feedback. Please tear it up.

Really nice shot. I just wish the cast that is cast from her hat wasn't so harsh.

Her face is in and out of focus to me? Her eye seems focused, but her bottom portion doesn;t seem so clear ? Alot of shadows may be the reason as well.It would be nice to see her entire face( other eye) in proper light.

I agree about the shadow and DOF issues. I also think the guitar - being so much brighter than its surroundings - is too dominant to thrust in a corner without unbalancing the shot. While it's common for a steel-string acoustic to be played over the right knee, uncrossing legs (if necessary) and putting it over the left brings it further into the picture and might have helped. Alternatively, another angle... perhaps from lower down and to her right. Cheers, Tony

I was having some issues with the focusing and the general IQ of the Xti in this shoot. It could have been the "focus mode" i was using on the 70-200f4L. Can someone explain the two different modes?

If it's a bit like my 70-200f/2.8IS, minus the IS, there'd be a switch with AF and MF... they stand for Auto-Focus and Manual-Focus... and switch that adjusts the minimum focal distance. I suppose the latter must give some benefit in focusing speed and/or IQ when the close-range focusing is disabled, I'm sure I've read exactly what the benefit was, but wasn't interested enough to remember the details.

Cheers, Tony

I understand that there is a switch for each of those things, and what they do. If im in the "close range" focus mode, will a long range shot be oof?

No... both settings focus to infinity (the sideways "8" symbol), as printed on the switch itself. Cheers, Tony

The face seems weird to me as if you brightened the face too much in PP.

With the heavy shadow on her face from the hat, when its lightened, it looks like she has a black eye:confused:...are you able to retake this person?

The piano shot is lovely.....

The lighting is so not working for you in the others really, the second shot just posted is cute, but there are still shadows on her face. although not as heavy. The backgrounds aren't very attractive, big door handles atop her head?
I would leave the hat at home, lol.she has a sweet face and great eyes., no sense in hiding it.
