Good move.

Did you lose Digital Photo Professional (DPP)? Get it here (external link). Cursing at your worse-than-a-map reflector? Check out this vid! (external link)

I would NEVER want to be without my trusty 24-70mm f/2.8L lens. Seriously. This thing has been all over the world with me, through rain, shine, snow, mud and everything in between and never let me down. If I need a "default" lens that'll cover most bases, this is it. The fact that it's weathersealed has been a godsend - don't underestimate it. Of course, you'll need a weathersealed body to truly enjoy this.

Mine let me down. Damned USM took a sh1t on me a short while ago. I almost bought the Tamron as a quick fix, but the repair cost less than half a Tammy.

I had the 24-70L for my 5D and sold it because I went with an all-prime lens set-up (28mm f/1.8 and 50mm f/1.4). Just sold those two primes and am going back to the 24-70. While I really enjoyed shooting with the primes, in the end, I missed the versatility of the 24-70L.

It's one of the Canon lenses that can't be beat (135L being the best IMHO).

Enjoy

Gear: Kodak Brownie and homemade pin-hole cameras. Burlap sack for a bag.

Eeew, sorry to hear that. Did it still MF? I guess anything complicated and electro-mechanical in nature is bound to have a failure eventually, but it's a real random thing sometimes. Glad it's sorted out now though.

It's the old, purely mechanical lenses that really stand the test of time. The biggest worry is fungus or lubricant failure.

Yeah crap happens. It could still be MF'd. It was just the USM motor that went kaput. It's long since repaired though and I have a 28-105 f/3.5-4.5 as a backup just in case.
