I've heard some people saying they've used standard mechanical adaptors to put M42 mount lenses on their G-series. How does that work? Any experiences? Seems like an easy way to get great optics on the cheap...

considering the G10 has a fixed lens, you can't really replace the optics. So I don't know what you would be accomplishing. You might be able to reverse an old prime lens for macro purposes, but not for gaining optical quality or functionality in regular shooting.
