By the time customs had added the postage twice to the value of the goods (seller stipulated the value by including the postage, hmrc assume value is contents only then add postage) then VAT on this inflated value, the used lens cost the same as a new one in the UK.

Luckily, it was still a lot cheaper than a new one from UK. I've found you have to be really careful who and where you buy from! 5D, EOS M (Japanese two lens kit), 70-200 f/4L, 24-70 f/2.8L
