I'm trying to figure out this one out. We have a lot of red tailed hawks in the area, but this one was smaller (about 15in.) and seemed to have more grey in the feathers. The hawk let me get within 15 feet without flying away, so I got tons of pictures of it. Thanks for the help!

Might be a Cooper's Hawk.

This is a juvenile, [Under 2 years old] female Sharp Shinned Hawk. Her red bars are in a side to side pattern while a coopers hawk go in a up and down teardrop shaped pattern. Females are a lot bigger than the males. If you got some shots of the legs and feet, it might help to make it conclusive I think. :)

Thanks for the comments. I'm a true rookie. Of course, I focused on the head because I thought that would give me the best ID. She really didn't move much to see the feet. Here's a closer one of the eyes. Really cool bird!

I'm going to say Broad-winged hawk the tail looks too short for it to be an accipiter. Nice picture BTW

I agree with Broad-winged Hawk. The build is wrong for an accipiter, and the colors don't quite match.
