Need user experiences with digital optical slave units

I am working on a new project, and would be interested in whatever experiences anyone has with the digital optical slave units that are supposed to ignore the eTTL pre-flash, specifically with regards to the 580EX II flash unit.

Any and all comments are welcome.

In the B&H site, there are about 10 Wein brand units that all say they will work with the digital pre-flash. Is there one that works better than the others?

Has anyone used any of these "digital optical slave"units, and seen that they work as advertised, or don't work as advertised?
