It happens. What did you expect for less than $100?

Its all about the optics with the 50 1.8. The build sucks, the AF is noisy and slow, the focus ring is horrible, but it can really put out some awesome pictures ;)

You can probably just put it back together yourself, lots of people have done so, but yes, the build quality on this lens blows. Do yourself a favour and get a better 50mm prime.

Wow, bitter indeed! I'm interested to see pictures - what part failed?

I do question why you'd send it in for repair then sell it, when it's not that expensive of a lens. How much are they charging for repair?

omg, you wont f-ing believe this. i bring it over to my bed to photograph the messy condition (literally halved! the part that extends when focusing just came right out). and now it is perfectly fine.

WTF.

i shot some photos with it. perfect. like nothing ever happened (when a few hours ago, it was in pieces.)

im losing my mind. its goin on ebay.

Its a very simple lens, easy to push back together in most cases.

There's a topic on here about someone who accidentally put the lens through the washer machine...let it dry...and was able to put it back together and the lens worked.

The 1.8 can do some wonderous things.

Yeah I've heard a lot of good things about it so I decided to try it out for the price. Let's hope it won't fall apart on me.

I'm a big fan of the 50mm f1.8. It's the cheapest lens I own and I bought it when I was a student, but it always comes out with me to shoots and still gets used on a regular basis. Anecdotal evidence from friends suggests that the 1.4 can be unreliable, but I've had nothing but success with my 1.8.

Now, if only it focused quickly and quietly… ;-)a
