I just migrated from being a Nikon user and started using the 50d, however Ive noticed image quality degredation when using ACR and importing photos. Hi ISO images look great on camera however look horrible on the calibrated screen I use. Any ideas?

I have noticed it too, and have not been using it lately. I have been using the canon DPP software, It handles the noise alot better. CS3 uses uses ACR 4.6 which does not handle the 50d noise so well.

Does anyone know if there is a later version of ACR that works with CS3? I know CS4 uses ACR 5.X, but do you have to upgrade to CS4 to get it and does it work as well as DPP?

I like to use ACR better than DPP for raws because you have more fine tuning capabilities, so this issue has been bugging me lately also.

I think the issue is more how the defaults are set. I experimented a bit ago with noise and fidderances between DPP and ARC. When I manually set all setting to be the same between then, the pictures were very similar even pixel peeping at an insane 400%.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.
I used to hate math but then I realised decimals have a point.
