I don't get any warnings when opening in Photoshop. Here's an example of a raw file, no adjustments done in LR, and opened in PS. PS is much darker and more saturated. I just recalibrated my monitor before creating this screenshot. If I export the raw file as a .tif or .psd, it looks identical to the raw file in PS.

If those truly are screen shots taken while first bringing up the same RAW photo into the two programs, with no manipulation of the image yet applied, it could be the automatic application of some processing as it is brought in. Some programs attempt to mimic the camera's settings at the time of shooting, others don't, if I understand on difference correctly. Also, the programs can be set up to apply a predetermined set of parameters which are independent from camera settings at shot time...I could have LR apply one during auto Import vs. a different one during manual import. You might not be seeing rendition differences in monitor profile!

Good point. But when I export a PSD or TIFF from Lightroom it will have those settings applied, and it looks exactly the same as the RAW in PS.

I'm going to try to do some more playing around today and see if I can figure it out.

Ah, so you're comparing the Raw in LR to the Raw opened into PS through ACR?
The Raw exported from LR looks identical in PS?

In that case you probably use different settings in ACR then in LR. (Not sure how you managed to do that: AFAIK it's not possible). Latest version ACR?

If you reset both LR and ACR settings to "Adobe Standard" (press Alt to change the "reset" button to "set default", click it and choose "Adobe Default") they should be the same again.

If they're not, I'd suspect a corrupt monitor profile (but then a tiff image wouldn't look identical in LR and PSCS4)

Rene, sorry, I didn't explain myself very well there. I'm opening the raw file in PS through LR. Photo>Edit in PSCS4. I've tried doing the same on my wife's iMac, and LR and PS are identical.

If I export a TIFF or PSD from LR with no adjustments, it looks just like the raw in PS that I've sent from LR.

I think it's a corrupt monitor profile, I have been having some problems calibrating it. I'm using a Macbook with an external Dell 1904FP, but can't seem to get the colour right. I've found it impossible to calibrate both screens. I think I'll get another iMac. :)

Many thanks to you both for your help.

I've found it impossible to calibrate both screens.

That's because it is impossible (AFAIK) ;)
I've tried it on a 15" MBP once, and it looks like the video card only has one LUT: The calibration process will upload data to the LUT during the calibration process, so only the last screen calibrated will be accurate.

Better explained in post #3 here.
