So I got a Sigma 120-400, tried to make it work for me over the weekend but it was front focussing and was uber soft wide open. Traded it in for a Sigma 150-500.....This lens is the opposite, nice and sharp and contrasty, really like it.
Today (my second day with the lens) I'm panning some BIF's, then some stationary subjects and back and forth, switching the OS from mode 1 to mode 2, back and forth and notice the OS isn't zinging in while in mode 1 (for staitionary) So it now works in mode 2 and not mode 1....Took out the battery, unmounted the lens, cleaned the contacts and so on and so forth, still doesn't work.

The thing is.....I can still return it to B&H and exchange it for another one, will take a week or so for them do the turnaround/exchange...or I can send it to Sigma and have them fix the OS.....But the optics on this particular lens are superb, from what I'm seeing, a little better than most. Worried if exchange it with B&H I'll get one that isn't this sharp....

What would you do? Besides exchange it for a 100-400L...LOL

Since it is defect, within the return period, I would exchange it for another one, and take the risk of getting a less good one potentially.

Of course, personally, I really would exchange it for a 100-400L. I really do miss that lens :D. Unfortunately, I need some other stuff first.

Kind regards, Wim

Matt,
That's a difficult one.
But if I got something brand spanking new and there was something wrong with it, like the OS, I would return it. That would just bother me too much...

+1 on the "send it back" option.

Some stuff that says "Canon" on it and a happy trigger finger.

When the lens I buy exposes some abnormalities I am actually happy. I can send it with clear conscience to the manufacturer and they would take a very personal look at it , nothing comparing a the factory at mass production. I usually get back a perfect item which would be difficult for example to cherry pick. Sometimes it takes efforts and sending it in several times till the issue is fixed but at the end it worth it.
This was with Canon though,
