manual explains it all... as does the menu option for it (first yellow menu, second item)

From the Canon EOS 1D Mark III "White Paper":

With the CF card, SD card, and external media, the following recording functions can be used:
• Standard: There is no automatic switching of recording media
• Automatic switching of recording media: When the current recording medium
becomes full, the camera switches to another automatically and continues recording
without interruption
• Separate recording: A captured image can be recorded in different image sizes on
different media. Each recording medium can be set to record a specific image size
(L, M1, M2, S, RAW, sRAW) for each shot
• Recording of identical images: The same image is recorded to all recording media.
This is also possible with RAW+JPEG and sRAW+JPEG

It also tells you on page 74 of the owner's manual how to do it.

I tried copying the page, but it wouldn't copy, so Here's how they say to do it:

1. Select [Record func + media/folder sel]

Under the "tools" tab, select [Record func+ Media/folder sel], then press "set" (button)

2. Select [Record func]

Turn the quick control dial to select [Record func] then press "set" button

3. Select the recording method

Turn the quick control dial to select the recording method, then press the "set" button.

To record one format (i.e. RAW) to the CF card, and JPEG to the SD card, (RAW+JPEG) select "Record to Multiple", Each image is recorded to both the CF and SD cards simultaneously.

Hope that helps.

Photographers do it in 1/1,000th of a second...but the memory lasts forever! ;)

I record RAW on a 4MB CF card and the best JEPG on a 2GB SD card. When the CF is full the SD still has unused space, which goes unused because I load and unload both cards at the same time.

Yeah I knew about that. I already know how to record JPG+RAW to both memory cards. I wanted to record JPG to CF card for my client (since he provides CF Cards) and RAW to SD card for my own use. I've never been able to figure it out.

But I was playing with it some more today and I got to the usual point where I always get stuck at, (trying to bring change the SD to RAW). Since SD is second I could never figure out how to change the selection to SD but I rolled the Shutter wheel and it worked I was able to move the arrow to the SD card and change the SD to RAW!! hahahaha

Thanks soo much for the help!!!!

Hi... here is how I did it....

1. you will need both CF and SD card in the camera
2.turn the camera on
3. press the "function" button under the lcd screen
4. depending on which screen u get, it varies, keep pressing it until you get to the "Record func+media/folder sel" page.
5.select "recod func."
6. choose "Rec seperately"
7.press "function" again until u get to "Image Size - Record seperately"
8. you should see a CF and SD card icon, select them to choose the corresponding file you want to record.

hope this helps

northfaceboy that worked perfectly, but instead of pushing the function button I had to go in through the first yellow menu like said before, otherwise its a great step by step.

My wife doesnt like to work in RAW all the time so this is great for both of us.

This is very cool. Now I can quickly upload jpegs to my iPad and later download the RAW files to my desktop. It's also handy if I want to share pics with a friend. I can just load the jpeg files onto their computer. Now I can't wait for the Eye-Fi cards to be able to send pics directly from my camera to my iPhone (that feature is coming soon).

I believe that was one of the upgrades from 1dII to 1dIIn that made it a worthwhile upgrade.

Yeah, I did a little research- you're right. The Mark II doesn't have that feature. I just used it on the Mark III for the first time today, pretty spiffy.
