I'm finding this board a wealth of great information. I found a nice neoprene carrying case for my G2 that attaches and snaps to the strap. Works great! Thanks Folks!

Is anyone aware of a BP511 battery charger that is 240V compatible (I'm going to Italy for a month) in the $35 price range (Cannon's is $65). The $19.99 one at SterlingTek is not 220V ready.

Thanks for any help

GreenBatteries (www.greenbatteries.com (external link)) carries one. I purchased one about 18 months ago and use it almost exclusively for recharging my G5 batteries. Based on my experiences, I'd highly recommend it. (It's got a U.S. plug on it, so you'll need a plug adapter for it to fit in European sockets.)

The charger can be found on this page: http://store.yahoo.com …s-store/liionbatchar.html (external link)

A minor hint for your trip: go to your local electronics store (better than Radio Shack if possible) and buy the best-quality electrical tape you can get. It should cost less than $5 for a roll. Then tape your European adapter onto the American plug so you can't accidentally lose it. I once left my adapter in a hotel socket when I was in a hurry, and it was a big pain to replace it. The reason for buying quality tape is that the cheap stuff slips, gets gooey, and doesn't have good stretch. I brought good stuff with me, and it has lasted 9 months on several plugs without problems.

BTW, I'm going to be in Italy May 5-15. If we're gonna overlap and wind up in the same city, it might be fun to try to connect for a beer. E-mail me at geoff@cs.hmc.edu (external link).

Oh, yeah: my standard European travel advice. Go to a toy store and get a $1 keychain compass. It'll save endless hassle when you come out of a subway and can't make sense of the map. Learned it the hard way. :-)

All I want is a 10-2000 f/0.5L with no distortion that weighs 100 grams, fits in my pocket, and costs $300. Is that too much to ask?

My G2 charger (CA-560) is 220 volt compatible. It is labeled as being for 100-240 volts 50- to 60 cycle. All I need is the adapter to convert the US style plug to the European style (which varies country to country).
