Just to clarify, that number they give you at the post office, is NOT tracking, its delivery confirmation, it is there to ensure delivery, I sell ALOT on eBay, and I think it was accurate maybe one time, most of the time it shows up a day later which is just what I need. I hope your package comes today :)

That's when someone at the PO finally got around to scanning it. Not necessarily when it crossed the counter. I've had items never get scanned until they arrive in town to be delivered.

Oic. It says they accepted it at 1:53PM at the same town the dude lives in. And the tracking number before said that they were still waiting for the package but they've been 'notified' of the shipping, or something like that. I think that's when you use the electronic shipping and they give you the tracking number, but they still havent gotten the actual package yet.

I think that's when you use the electronic shipping and they give you the tracking number, but they still havent gotten the actual package yet.

Probably generated the shipping label, slapped it on the envelope, put the envelope in a box, and USPS pickup times were already earlier in the day. So then they picked it up the next day out of the box, and scanned it in. From the seller's perspective, the package switched ownership from him to USPS. Even if you drop it off at a USPS facility into their box, they will honor their box pickup times even if the box is on their premise, meaning they won't get to it until the next day if you dropped it off after their times.

There is no need to generate the electronic shipping info AND take it to a person at the counter, it saves you nothing, so I have to make the very educated guess that this is what happened. (I run into this almost every single day as I ship out an average of 5 items a day via USPS and generate my own shipping labels from home)

Are you saying that the original tracking # that he gave you was correct? If so, I'm thinking it was a case of someone at the PO not getting it taken care of in a timely fashion. Also, the 'accepted' time and date, in my experience, has not necessarily been the time that he actually gave it to them.

I've sent stuff out myself, and checked on the status via the tracking #, and have found this same kind of thing. The 'accepted' time was in one case, 2 days later than the day I sent it. Even though I know the guy at the PO, and I watched him scan the barcode when I gave it to him. I've also had stuff where the tracking # didn't hit the system until the day I got the package.

As someone else pointed out, it's not really a tracking #, it's a Delivery Confirmation #. I guess that means it's handled differently than say a UPS or FedEx tracking #.

Bottom line is, the package is in the hands of the USPS, and is on its way to you. That's a good indication that it's not a scam.

So, not a scam, but from what I can see - a person who may of had some difficulties getting the shipment off in a timely manner, and a postal system that does not track all that well.

does not seem to be a scam.

I'll add another experience where postal service tracking numbers show the thing just being recorded and no progress for several days. Meanwhile the item shows up on your doorstep. In fact I think thats happened each of the three or four times I've tracked something through them in the past two years.

Glad to hear it's working out. However, since you said he's a member here, you might want to post an apology, as if he hasn't seen this thread yet, he probably will.

I've got a great experience with USPS tracking. I shipped a lens through USPS with delivery confirmation. 2 weeks later website says customer was notified, waiting for pickup. Emailed the customer, he received the package a week before. The USPS website still says it is not delivered and that was almost 2 months ago.

Did you have insurance on it? If so, contact the PO regarding why they're saying that it hasn't been delivered.
