I bought a G9 for my wife as she has no interest in an DSLR. I was wondering what mode (AV, P, Auto) that most experienced G9 users favor. So far, her shots aren't all that great, but I'll never get her to use manual mode.

1Dx - 5DIII - 40D - Canon 24-70LII, 100L macro, 135L, 16-35L, 70-200 f4 and 100-400L lenses

- "Very good" is the enemy of "great." Sometimes we confuse the two.

Mmy most-used mode to shoot my G9 is in AV mode (with manual focus), as I do a lot of closup work, and AV lets me quickly get the DOF I want and the camera takes over the rest. I do use Auto alot when I'm just snapshooting, and there is nothing wrong with that - it does a beautiful job in auto mode too. I hope she enjoys it.

I normally use AV mode, but I think your wife will do fine with Auto. This is the mode most preferred by my wife also. She does not have to worry about settings.

I think for most purposes the G9 does a great job on Auto.

There are times when I turn the camera to auto and there's nothing wrong with that.
