Please help. I am trying to use the brush tool in a layer mask to reveal the layer below, but the only brush I can access is the "History brush."

Frustrated. What am I doing wrong?

What do you mean you can't access the brush? What goes wrong? Do you get an error message?

The only brush in toolbar is the "history brush" ...whatever that is.

And then if I try to use this "history brush" anyway I get an error "Cannot use the history brush because the history state does not contain a corresponding layer."

Thanks HankScorpio and BigBlueDodge for the fast assist. BigBlueDodge, that screenshot helped!! My brush had turned to a pencil, and I am too new to know to have looked until I saw your screenshot.

MANY THANKS!

They are in different places on the palette.

For future reference, pressing Shift+B will cycle between Brush, Pencil and Colour Replacer.

GREAT tip! And I bet that's how I ended up with a pencil but just didn't know it was all in the same space. Lol...the scales are falling from my eyes.

Thanks much!
