I think it's hard to tell unless you have the same picture (taken by you to rule out user error) with a camera or lens that you know is sharp.

If you want to set up a sharpness test take a picture with a remote/shutter timer and a tripod in bright light at a variety of f stops. Something with a less complicated background might be preferable for testing purposes.

But to answer your question, the pictures aren't mind-blowingly sharp but look ok.

Camera and lenses appear to be doing the job, but is your monitor delivering to your eyes what your camera and lenses delivered to your monitor?

There is nothing wrong with those images.

Please post 100% crops with EXIF intact. Use a tripod + cable release, and use manual at about 5.6-8. Post em back, then people might be able to better judge if your equipment is at fault.

Anyone know anything anywhere anymore?

Thanks for the comments,

Please post 100% crops with EXIF intact. Use a tripod + cable release, and use manual at about 5.6-8. Post em back, then people might be able to better judge if your equipment is at fault.

Will try today to take a couple of images using tripod.

And here is the Link to the full size images http://davesimages.hobby-site.com/ (external link)

Added new images done today 03/-5/09 with tripod.

I looked at 0598 and 0601

I don't see anything wrong with the first one and the second one, depends what you focused on. The foreground, up to the pottery on the ground in front of the fence, is in sharp focus.

What do you see wrong with these 2 ?

I look at some of the images on this forum and the camera that is being used like the 40D that i have and see some good photo's, I know that a lot are taken by pro's and i will never get a really good mind blowing image, Now i would love too.

Maybe it's me wanting too much from my camera and me being a novice.

I wish i new someone on this forum that is from england Birmingham that i could meet and share technique's.

I never liked my 40D because I always felt the images weren't as sharp as they should be, I went into the menu and pushed the sharpness up to +7.
