This bird has eluded me for many months... They never stay in one place for more than 3 secs and by the time I get set to shoot, their gone... And they fly beyond branch ends and dissapear, so I get them when I can... I think there getting used to me a bit cuz this one was on the fence and he just kept coming closer to see what I was all about... Each time I clicked the shutter he came a little closer... I wanted some definition from this lens that I thought was missing...

I know the fence is not best place to shoot a bird but my frustration level was getting thin and I wanted a decent pic of one, after a year of trying... I thought I had issues with this lens but it appears it was my settings with too much flash compensation dialed in, I forgot to reset it... These are from my yard.. Still learning this lens... Just an unsharp mask is all I did to these..

(a) You takes your birds where you gets 'em -- on a fence, on the ground or (in Mitch's and dbriz's case, in their hands!).

(b) Congrats! I have yet to get a single shot of a jay here. Not one.

I take them sitting on my deck railing all the time or standing in a glass feeder dish. Take them where you can get them, they're not all supposed to be frameable anyway...are they?

Thanks Harvey, yes you could say a relief sort of... Now I can concentrate on other birds... But I won't neglect a shot of the same if it produces a good shot... If there's a chance to shoot a bird, I'm there hopefully...;)

Great job. I used to never see Blue Jays, but they found my peanuts and now they won't go away. :)

That's a male offering food to a female he wants to bond with. Still too early for juvies. Nice shots though. That blue jay may start making shutter sounds though, if he was that interested in it. They do learn new sounds. :)

Thanks Mitch... Yeah, I figured that after I wrote it in.. lol - I'm spending quite a bit of time outdoors now since I got this lens and I'm finding out a few birds that I know of, are also making different sounds than what I'm accustom of hearing..

I seen for the first time in my yard, 11 Cedar Waxwings.... What a thrill... They stayed only seconds and flew away... Unfortunately, I don't have a real good pic of them... But I'll post this one heavily cropped...

What a grin I had going on too Gary... (This was Friday night) I remember Airedale (Paul Merrit) posting one a while back, and he lives 30+ miles away from me.. I thought WOW, how lucky he was to get a shot of one... And there I was sitting on my deck with camera and all of a sudden, all these birds flew into a tree close by, took a look through the lens and said Holy S__t their Waxwings... I got a bit nervous, never checked my camera and shot away... A bit dissapointed in the outcome but at least I seen them.. Their stay was a brief 30 seconds or so... This makes 28 different birds that have visited my yard in one year..
