Hi,

Im pretty new to lightroom and iv run into a small problem..

I have a folder on the desktop with about 100 images that have all had tweaks done to them in lightroom,.

I would like to move this folder to another drive (and at a later date back it up) how can I do that while keeping all the lightroom adjustments intact.

I have copied some photos out of the folder and placed them in another, but the adjustments are lost...Is there a way in lightroom for the adjustments to be kept in a text doc thats contained in the folder or something - that way when it gets backed up it also backes up the setting and they are remembered?

Im not sure what todo, I dont want to loose anything idealy.

You can simply move the photos to the new drive. When you open Lightroom it will prompt you that it cannot find the photos (there will be a question mark on the thumbnails). Simply right click on anyone of the thumbnails and follow the prompts to tell Lightroom the new location of the folder.

Of course, you can also use Lightroom to move the folder for you.

I have copied some photos out of the folder and placed them in another, but the adjustments are lost...Is there a way in lightroom for the adjustments to be kept in a text doc thats contained in the folder or something - that way when it gets backed up it also backes up the setting and they are remembered?

To ensure that the Lightroom edits are preserved you need to EXPORT the edited files from Lightroom. Simply copying already edited files will not work because the Lightroom edits are stored either in a central database or in XMP sidecar files. Unless the viewing application you're using can read the XMP format you will not see the changes so the best solution is to export the files which writes the changes directly to the file so they can be viewed by any application.

One approach to this is to first get out of the Library Folders panel (so no folder is selected) by, say, clicking on All Photographs or Quick Collection. Then on the Folders panel top bar, there is a plus sign to Choose or Create a new folder. If you go to your new drive and then select Make New Folder, you can create a Parent folder that will show up in your library.

From there, it's easy to move an entire folder to the parent folder: click the existing folder, then right-click the parent folder and select move the selected folder to this folder. The folder, images, and all settings will be retained.
