G10 a pain to carry

I recently bought a G10, with an eye on an upcoming Disneyworld holiday. I wanted something smaller and lighter than the SLR.

On processing my first batch of RAW pictures, I am finding myself much happier with the picture quality than I expected, so on that side I have a real winner.

But...

It's a total pig to carry around!

The neckstrap doesn't work for me, as I normally have at least one other bag around my neck. It's got no grip, and when I tried a "grip strap" (admittedly, one bought for the SLR from an eBay retailer) it forced my fingers to entirely the wrong place.

I've read of the Franiac grip for the G9, but I've not been able to find anyone saying that it works well on the G10.

What does everyone else use to help them carry this camera around with them?

regards,
/alan

I use several things, depending......for my G9.

I have a little Lowepro camera bag that fits snugly around the camera, has a little pocket in front with two sections perfect for an extra card and an extra battery, a contraption on the back to fasten onto your pants belt, as well as hooks for a shoulder/neck strap, but I cannot find a model number for you.

I also have a wrist strap attached to mine, and from reading other posts, many other G-ers use wrist straps of various types (some snagged off of other cameras they have).

I've also just carried it in my pocket.

I bought a Lowepro D-Pods 30 for my G-9 and it JUST fits (barely). It has a pretty secure velcro belt strap which served me well during our last trip to Disneyworld.

IMO a case that clips to your belt is your best bet. My advice would be to visit your local camera shop with your camera and try a bunch out.

I understand completely...
Back in the days of film...after 2 rolls of shots with my Nikon on a 10 week trip to Asia, I took virtually all the rest of my shooting with an Olympus XA-4...then...after going digital...
I just left my SLRs at home when I went to Europe...took the A95...but as good as it is, and as satisfied as I was with it, I felt that I could've used a bit more (more zoom, wider aperture, more control)...
...so I thought I'd go with the XT...
...then last month I got the G3 and I'm liking it a whole lot as a nice compromise (it'd take at least 2 lenses to cover what the G3 can do)...I found a nice PnS belted-hip case so I don't have to carry it around my neck...I'm selling my XT in favor of the G3...
The sizes I'm dealing with...

I found the Lowepro model of the case I use for my G9. Should fit the G10 too.

It's the Rezo 20

I ditched the neck strap and put on a wrist strap I took off an old Fuji P&S.

The camera resides in a Kata DP 415 most of the time, sometimes in a pocket.

I just got my G10 yesterday, and the store where I bought it didn't really have a bag for it, so off I went to Best Buy. The smallest case I could find to fit was the Lowepro Rezo 50.

And yes, I took a wrist strap from a semi-retired ELPH I had laying around. It'll work for now, but seems a little flimsy, so in the long run I'll be looking for another solution. Maybe something from Op/Tech.

I use the shoulder strap, and have the camera in an aftermarket "never-ready" case...actually just the bottom half. When traveling between shooting sites (or in the car, or elsewhere), it's tucked into a small shoulder bag that also carries a wide-angle conversion set-up plus basic accessories, such as the spare battery, the charger, blower, brush, spare card, etc.

The bag is slung with the strap across the chest so the bag hangs in back, leaving the shoulder free to carry the camera. I occasionally wear the camera around the neck, and don't mind it much...

Regards!

We plan to pick up a Crumpler The Bundle for our G5 for the very reasons you mentioned...pain to carry around on the neck strap. We spent two days at Disneyland with it, and getting it in and out of a backpack or wearing it around our neck wasn't much fun.

We have a Mountainsmith Exposure camera case for our A570 and it works great! Light, fits the camera, spare battery and memory card, can attach to a belt, strap can be worn cross-body. We would get the same case for our G5, but they aren't large enough, but the Bundle (L) is, and can clip onto our 7MDH if need be.

I carry my G10 in my jacket pocket. And when it's too hot for at jacket I use one of these strapped to my belt:

I have a small soft leather case that I bought on ebay. It has a belt loop. That is a problem with the G9-10. They are just a little too big to fit in a pocket.

I "had" the G10 for a week or so-- I sent it back. I was not thrilled with the noise in less than perfect daylight -- but I was also not thrilled with how awkward it was to hold-- I agree it really needs a grip - something that you can grab onto-- Here is a mod someone did to make a strap:

I use several cases. Lately, I've been using the Lowepro DPods-50 attached to my belt.

I had the Rezo 20 someone mentioned above, but found it a bit tight. The DPods has less padding, but is a better fit. You can store a wrist strap in there too.

Some good answers here, but maybe I wasn't completely clear.

I have a carrying case, and that's okay. But what I found didn't work was when I wantde to walk around with the camera in my hand, ready for use - not in a case.

An SLR has a nice protruberant grip that I can wrap the fingers of my right hand around... The G10 doesn't and it's much harder to carry because of it.

Has anyone found any decent alternative? In particular, I was wondering about the Op/Tech GOTCHA strap - http://www.optechusa.com …UCT_SUB_ID=&CATEGORY_ID=4 (external link) - has anyone any experience of this?

I use one of these when my G9 is out of the belt case:

It's pretty comfy, and you can slide the metal buckle to snug it up around your wrist for more security.
