I didn't know that this was coming out. When was it announced? My only issue with Sigma is their lack of consistency with QC. I've been lucky with my Sigma purchases but I'm sure my luck is bound to run out one day;)

Sorry i was not around much since your comment... ;)

Here are two links to the two versions of that lens which are new:

2.8-4.5 version OS & HSM
http://sigmaphoto.com …s.asp?id=3359&navigator=6 (external link)

2.8 HSM Macro but no OS:

It will be interesting to see how they both come out. Like you in the short time I've been back at doing this, I have had great luck with Sigma lenses...still, it can happen. I figure if I am saving $400-$500 I can live with having to send it in for adjustment or even a couple returns, even if I pay the shipping one way. Lenses are cheap to ship and I already have an umbrella shipping insurance policy so, I catch a break there. ;)

Oh and one more thing. 10mm on a crop is tremendous. You can create such w i d e, interesting images that you'll wonder how you coped without an ultra-wide...while 17mm is just "useful".

I think this is so true. For me it's a bit of a necessity for work in interiors, but for general use it's enormous fun!

I must admit I do get a bit of noticeable chromatic aberration on mine. Does anyone else get that? Or do you think my lens could do with being looked at?

Cheers,

S

That HSM 2.8 is Nikon mount only.

I get a tiny bit in harsh lighting conditions, but it takes microseconds to clean it up in Lightroom.
:D

Oh and to the OP, somebody mentioned about not replacing what you already have, while you have a gap to fill.

This is wise talk.

Changing one lens into another - with similar focal length/zoom - won't make a massive difference.

Whereas adding a completely new focal length/zoom range will!

Well, seeing as how I just sold my 70-200, I don't think I'll be buying anything anytime soon. Thanks everyone for the responses. I'll keep them all in mind when I'm ready to buy.
