I just got off the phone with Beach Camera after inquiring about why they are not showing the Canon rebates.

I was told that they weren't sure they'd be participating but would know within a day or two at the most. While I do believe what I was told it seems odd that everyone else has jumped in without hesitation and Beach has some issues.

The issues is this... they say that when Canon offers instant rebates, the intention is to make it so the consumer no longer has to deal with a third party rebate center and spend months fighting to get their rebates, but they also said that the burden is shifted to the retailer and they now have to fight to get the rebates.

I couldn't get any more information than that so if you're a loyal Beach Camera customer like myself we either have to buy elsewhere or wait an extra day or two to see if the rebates show up on the site.

DO NOT buy from them expecting the rebate until it is actually showing or a salesperson tells you the rebates are in effect. They said they are in negotiation with Canon to have something in writing guaranteeing the rebate will be issued back to the retailer.

Thanks for the info... I went to their site this morning and was wondering the what the deal was. I wonder if something similar is going on at KEH since I noticed the same thing there. I guess we'll see if I'll end up having to switch retailers.

That is absolutely true.

But you would think that they would have known about the rebates a lot sooner, and negotiated something before the rebates started. My guess is that they have "issues" with Canon themselves or the rebate company that Canon is using.

It's good advice--don't buy it from them if you are expecting the rebate. Wait till it shows on their site.

UPDATE: The rebates are slowly being listed on the Beach Camera site. Some of the numbers are wrong but if you call them up and go over the numbers based on the Canon PDF they will honor the correct price while they're updating the items and prices.

I've always loved doing business with Beach and they're customer service is outstanding. If you're in the NY metro area like me you don't pay tax and they ship FedEx (free shipping on most big ticket items), which means overnight delivery.

NOTE:
The 70-200mm f/2.8 L IS is showing the wrong rebate and incorrect price. They will honor the $200 rebate and price of $1499 if you call. Someone isn't paying attention while entering the information.
The 85mm f/1.2 L II is showing the correct rebate amount but it's not reflected in the selling price. Also, the 580EX II is not showing the rebate or a new price yet but I was able to get the flash at the rebate price of $370. Looks like they need a day to get their sh*t together.
